Same thing in WI. I just showed them my SS card and passport. Its gotten pretty bad. Here in Maryland, you apparently now need to re prove your citizenship before you can get your license renewed. My step father is in his 70s and been driving in Maryland since he was 16. A retired Maryland State Police Sargent with all of those credentials and his birth certificate was not enough to satisfy his citizenship, he had to go to the Social Security Administration and get a document stating he was a registered citizen. He ended up having to hire an attorney, because he still met with resistance at the DMV and low and behold, the attorney he contacted had just gone through the same thing. So when he went back to the DMV, he observed as an obvious non citizen (by action, not appearance) produced a piece of paper stating they were here on a student visa and he was given both a vehicle registration and then tested (and passed) the written driving test. Drove away with his permit to drive fat and happy. At least they did require him to come back and do the driving part. This Country has gone right to $%&*.
