What u guys use to mark anchor rode? I was thinking electrical tape, wondering if it messes up the windlass or anything. Would rather not use paint. Any suggestions?

I don't have a windlass, but I use electrical tape - bands every 10ft I, II, III etc.

I use paint and just need to touch it up every few years. Haven’t had any issues

small wire ties. 1 at 25', 2 at 50', and 3 at 75'

On my all-chain rode I use two 6' lengths of polypropylene line, one blue, one yellow. I have the blue one at 30' the yellow at 60'. I have woven them through the chain links, and tied them at the ends and here and there with waxed canvas thread. Has stood up for years.

I never understood this marking... I just figure out how much comes out over time... then just count To yourself when you’re deploying... 1,000, 2,000 etc. .... you’re counting the marks anyway

I use paint Red, White Blue, Red, White, Blue. Every 20’
Colors make it easy to remember how much you have out.

I used red paint every 20 feet. Just counted the number for the scope I wanted. I also used yellow paint at a point that left the anchor a foot or so below the surface. That way I could back down and get the mud off the anchor prior to bringing it all the way up.

Is there some particular reason you don’t want to use paint?

Reason I’m asking is because I used red paint every 25 feet. One band for 25, two bands at 50, three at 75. I then used blue paint for the 100, 125, 150.

Is there are problem with paint I did not know about?

I was just expecting the paint to start falling off as I retrieve the anchor and getting all over the boat and driving me nuts

How about using silicone tape / rescue tape ? If it wears off it is easy to reapply and is waterproof.

neon paint, easy to see....Don't really need it only to prove a point to the wifey when we argue about how much rode I need.

Been using paint for several years and never had those problems. I use Rustoleum out of spray cans.

I used fluorescent colored spray paint, only issue is I forget what my color codes meant...

lol! Being a CRS sufferer, I made up a guide with a label maker and have it affixed to the boat near the helm. It’s right at the side of my right leg when I’m standing at the helm.
