Official 350 Thread

Up date on Mark IV to Gen VI 454 conversion.
1) All fluids in and holding
2) Ran Stbd engine at idle and no leaks. I don't own a digital timing light so marinas job.
3) Port oil cooler lines and plumbing installed. No leaks while motoring. Planning to run port engine at idle early Friday.
4) Stbd engine ready to drop off. That is once I install the rebuilt alternator due to arrive Friday afternoon
5) Port engine electric fuel pump hard lines manufactured but not installed due to engine installed on legs. Plan to run this engine early Friday morning at idle.
If all goes well engines should be ready for relocation to Park Marina late Friday afternoon.
So anxious and feel I finally have a grip on the tasks at hand.

So I dropped dressed engines off at Marina yesterday. Working on some final catch up items today as haul out scheduled for this Tuesday (March 9).
I drained the Hurth transmissions yesterday and pulled filters.
Manual says to slosh filters in Mineral Spirits and let air dry (no compressed air)
Filters had very small flakes of ferrous metal but nothing substantial. So here is my question.
What ATF fluid do I use?
Manual say's Dexron II ATF. Appears that Dexron II no longer available.

Kevin, I'll send you a pic of the jug of what I use in mine per my trans man here shortly when I get to the boat. I would expect a little metal, especially because they probably haven't been serviced in a while.

Final details. Thanks to LastCall 350; confirmed that indeed the stuff that works for our Hurth Tranny's is indeed the Valvoline DEX/MERCON ATF. That is here in the states. So with that said, I purchased 3 gallons at the local Walmart store for about $14 per gallon. Not Bad...
Re-installation of the Stbd filter cover cap challenged my end of weekend goals. The design of the Hurth caps are similar to that of freeze plugs. (Tighten and expand). Problem with stbd cover is no movement with Allen key either way enough slacken the o-ring compression to reinstall. I believe corrosion between the pieces. So tomorrow, I'll apply some blaster penetrate oil and heat and hopefully it will free up.
Decided to shift focus to properly securie some wiring, hoses as well as various clamp change outs. All the while securing of the 3/4" hose I just changed for the gen set.
One more day of bilge detail before haul out. I'm exhausted but anxious to splash her. I feel as if I'm day's away. Hopeful that is.....

You'll be there before you know it, I'm excited for you. I know that has been like having a second job for the last couple months.

Great news haul out tomorrow morning at 7:00AM. Today was last minuet bilge detail. Shop vac, hose clamp replacements on drip-less shaft hoses, and others, replacing many missing zip tie to stringers, securing 3/4" raw water hoses to stringers etc.
Bilge nice and tidy. Not sure why but I found a puddle of water (2 cups) between stbd motor stringers at forward bulkhead. Transmission area. Hmm.
Excited now. I ordered a new Steering wheel from FP marine with type "B" center emblem. Its on back order til May. Oh we'll. I feel it will look great. Thanks

"Plenty Of Time" haul out was uneventful. Today's Drama was that I forgot give the little baggie to the Marina with the special low clearance bolts for the raw water pump installation. They were in my cup holder. Ugh!! My bad I know....
I had to transport the 454's without the raw water pumps installed. The bolts behind the coolant re-circulation pumps are very low clearance heads hardware with very little threads to clear the outlet of the water circulation pump. Grouchy young Dan called at 4:30 bitching me out. Who's the customer here? They have them now and hopeful moving in the right direction.

Today I did a quick hit and run. Both engines sitting on stringers and spline coupled up to transmissions. That's all they did to the engines. Today's efforts concentrated on installation of the extended swim platform to get a head start curing my requested 5200 quick sealant get to work.
Dan wanted to use 4200. His reasoning was that he's pulled stuff apart years later and observed wet 5200. He honored my request. Should I be worried?
As usual his charming personality was "have a great rest of your day". LOL I read the situation as... please leave.
And so I did.
I get it but man his bed side manners leave a lot to be desired. I thought I was bad. Too funny

Sounds like they are moving right along with it, progress baby! And no need to worry about 5200, that stuff is top quality for certain applications such as how your using it IMO.

And I certainly respect your opinion, and thank you for your expertise and response as always.
Hard to sink the ship at present. I'll do it later when it runs like crap or leaks.

Update on this dead thread.
So today was a pretty good day. Dan at Park Marina called to asked if I wanted to come down and inspect the swim platform prior to gooping up hardware and permanent install with the 5200. Now's the time for adjustments he said. I declined and said "I trust your judgement" as he sounded like he was very happy with the fit.
He did share that engine tweaks were not part of his original quote as he thought turn key's would be supplied. I'm okay with this and in agreement. I am however going to hold him to engine, transmission to shaft alignment. Waiting for e-mail response in the morning on this.
He shared with my bride and I this afternoon that he is targeting Splash Saturday afternoon or worst case Monday. Fingers crossed.

That's awesome news! Quick turn around, hopefully they will get it in Saturday afternoon so you can spend Sunday tweaking and kink working. Send some pics of your platform install when you get by there

Swim platform and engines installed. Final details take the longest. Splash targeted for Saturday morning Mar 13.

Two friends helping me once she's splashed. Marina said to show up @ 10:00am. They won't run engines. All upon me.
I guess they play things safe this way. Wish I could be this arrogant with my aircraft customers.

We'll yesterday's splash didn't come with out issues. Marina service guy connected the raw water pump hose backwards causing my new impeller kits to melt away. We did manage to get boat in the slip. Marina will be working on her Monday replacing the pump kits as well as alignment of the shafts as requested. I was able to time the engines and adjust the carbs. Oh well. At least shes back in slip.

Grrr frustrating to say the least! Maybe they learned the reason why they should always test run their work. Easy to reverse them on the bravo pumps, but that sucks because it's a tight job on our boats!

You'll be boating next weekend!
