Water under port engine For the last couple of months I have noticed water collecting under the port engine. Back in the early spring I had oil coolers removed from both engines and had the cores replaced. I am guessing that the water is coming from one of the O rings or gaskets involved in the cooler. However I cant find it. It is very diificult to access this area. Im looking for any ideas either to help confirm my suspicion or perhaps the leak could be something else that I havent thought of yet? They are Cummins qsc engines. I have confidence in the mechanic who performed the service but acknowledge he was in a very difficult position putting it all back together on the port side.

Is the port engine losing coolant?

I experienced same issue once. Thought it was my water pump. Opened engine hatch in salon, placed light in far port area near water pump, started motor, then reached in with my iPhone and video'd the area as best I could. What I found was one of the hoses from the pump to cooler failed (slit in bottom side not visible from top) and was weeping water. Water leaked only when the engine was running filling the port engine cradle. It is a molded hose. One end is smaller than the other. I do not have exact part number but located from SBAR marine. I ended up replacing all three hoses while in that tight space. All things considered, easy fix. I have 480CE's.

I still have the Systems Monitor module I removed when I scraped and replaced the entire system.
Welcome to try it - if it fixes the issue you can pay what you think it is worth.

Yes, can you please send me personal message me? I will give it a try. Thanks!

Tom:

I will definitely take you up on your offer. I am not certain how to send a PM but will once I determine I will send you my info. Or you can message me perhaps? Thanks.

Sounds to me like water accumulation in the cavity between the engines. I had a similar case of brownish fresh water under the port engine which was fixed by boring an inspection sized hole in the floor, sucking out all the water and then installing an inspection cover. There are some previous posts around May 2020 (#1911) on the exact same subject.
It appears to be clear fresh water.

A/C question, does your fan keep blowing air after temp setting is achieved or does your fan shut off?
Mine keeps blowing but drops to a lower speed and I would prefer it shut off

I am replacing diesel view with raymarine mfd's. That should not affect the system monitor should it? My electronics guy is beginning to worry me.
Totally separate systems; the only thing in common they both get their power from the same batteries.....
What is your plan to get Smartcraft data that Diesel View uses readable on the Ray MFD's? This is not a simple plug and play......
Here is a link to what I used to display engine data on my Axiom MFD’s it is fairly simple https://www.mercruiserparts.com/mercury-mercruiser-8m0165589-gateway-can
It does not display all data and I would not give up my Diesel View. With that said I really like having the the data displayed on a split screen on my second MFD
RBB it is not that difficult to do, if you have questions let me know. It is hard to get work done by reliable people now days so I find myself just doing it.
Here is a link to a thread that I found very helpful https://www.sbmar.com/community/topic/nmea-2000-gateway-to-diesel-view/page/2/

Random Friday rambling and observation. I don't put a lot into NADA values but it does give you an idea of what the bank think thinks the boat is worth. If there is a more accurate source please let me know! Anyway, it's important because the bank will only lend so much based on the bank value.

Casually shopping for a 42/44DB there is a huge price difference in NADA value from an 04/05 to an 08/09. Basically the same boat right? NADA has a 04/05 under 200k, like in the 170-175 range. The 09 is 335k. Huge difference! What surprises me a little is the asking prices are really high right now and don't vary a ton by year. 04/05 in the 325-335 range and the 07-09 are 399ish. I think the prices are slightly more realistic if you back out the 10% broker fee but still. These prices are steep!!!

You can program the fan to run only when the compressor is running. I did that on our 44DB and have it that way on the 420 now. I will see if I can find the manual and post it.

See if this will open.

Same fiberglass for the most part. Different engines, different electronics, usually a hardtop and different bridge enclosure...main changes off the top of my head.

I serviced the aftercoolers, heat exchangers, and transmission oil/fuel coolers last spring. It didn't seem like the oil/fuel cooler coils were replaceable. Are you possibly talking about having the aftercooler cores replaced?

It is very possible the O-rings on the aftercooler endcaps are not properly sealed. Corrosion on the faces of the aftercooler housing is not uncommon, which prevents a proper seal. It is a precise interface as one O-ring prevents cooling water from escaping past the cap, and also from making it's way to the intake loop. You can also check for leaks around the zincs.

After a run at reasonable RPM, get into the engine room and feel around the endcaps for moisture. The aftercooler is on the outboard side of the port engine, so most easily done by opening the port salon engine bay hatch.

I think the jump to the QSC 500s is the biggest difference. Not all 08/09 that I see for sale have the fiberglass hardtop.

No. You have to program it for continuous or intermittent.

Bennett
Ok, then I must have programmed mine. If it’s set for auto it only runs the fan when the compressor runs. If I set manual it runs the fan nonstop. Coincidentally mine goes into the auto/heat mode randomly.
