The truth about wearing a mask -finally

I selectively wear a mask depending on where I am and how crowded it is. Out of respect for other's wishes, if I am in a place where most people are wearing masks, I will wear mine. Its a courtesy thing for me. I have my home made one as well as a bunch of the basic ones in the car. My home made one is used, then washed and dried each time.

I carry hand sanitizer and I use that depending on how comfortable I am with disinfection protocols at stores etc. and whether I am in an area with high rates of new cases/positive tests. I always use it after gassing up the car for example. Some stores are very diligent and have cart sanitizing stations outside. The one place I am very careful is grocery stores. (there were two employee cases at our local store about a month ago, so I am more careful since then. So is the store.). People touch stuff in grocery stores all the time. So everything gets washed once I get home unless it is going in a cupboard not to be used for a week or more. We did that with produce before anyway, so why not now? Before I did it because most people put their produce in a cart in the upper seat area. Right where parents seat their babies with diapers. Yuch. Covid or not, nothing that was in that seat is going in my face without a good cleaning.

I do see a lot of people in the car driving, alone, and wearing a mask. I guess if you only have two brain cells, you need to protect them more that the rest of us? It used to be that seeing a driver with a big hat on in the car was my "red flag", now its seeing someone driving alone with a mask on.

Not accurate. There is no data to suggest much less prove that "infection rate" are increasing. The only thing data tells us is if someone tests positive or negative. The more tests are performed the more positive AND negative results are recorded.

Mortality rates are down. Hospitalizations are down. Symptomatic patients are down.

There are no studies capable of determining when someone became infected.

There is no evidence that indicates "getting out and resuming their lives" increases anything except overall health and well being.

Most being repeated in blogs and sites are opinions of uninformed as well as political trolls.

The facts just don't support most of what the media is hyping. Its really a disservice and needlessly worries people.

You are a racist idiot even if you are a minority. We are all tired of you.

BLM bruthu.
It’s awful when your opinion is shattered by facts. :p

What's awful is when you think you are so smart but these are your lifetime achievements:

1970 SRV 180 w 2.5L Mercruiser.
2000 Ford Expedition Eddie Bauer
120HP Mercruiser

Seriously, couldn't you have popped for at least a 2002 Expedition or even 150 HP Merc?

Hey, you forgot my 1992 BMW 735i and my 1970 Harley chop.
Leaving those out of the family is downright... racist. o_O

So I went to a place requiring masks and did not have one. So I found a small microfiber towel in the car and tied it with a phone charging cord and went in. No one said a word, nor even looked funny at me with a "mask" that had a lightening and USB plug. LOL!

Oh, I am sure they looked at you funny. Maybe just not when you were looking! Probably posting your picture on instagram.

Have your opinion either way but knocking someone for what they have or don’t have is off the mark big time. So he’s less of a person or has less of an opinion because he doesn’t have the best and brightest things in life. Maybe he doesn’t keep up with the Jones’s because it’s not important to him to impress others. You should never judge a person on what they have or don’t have.

I have a friend that’s super frugal but could easily buy whatever toy he wanted. He doesn’t chase the “look what I have crowd”

I think the US needs a good old MIB reboot where you all forget the past and just focus on the future.

WA's mandatory mask law starts Friday but our gubnor apparently didn't want to lose any votes because there is no way to arrest or cite a person who violates the law.

Go figure.

Well guys, I'm not sure how I missed this thread...I can't read through (don't want to) 9 pages of comments....

I've pretty much concluded that I can't change any minds. It's been a great lesson in human behavior to watch recent events unfold. Whether it's this issue or the riots / protests / knocking down monuments, it's pretty much all the same... Lack of common sense, entitlement, and an arrogance that I can't say I've witnessed like this before.

I'm not sure where we go from here...

Further, I'm not sure how wearing a mask became a liberal thing....Whatever...

For those that want to listen or are looking for guidance, wearing a mask, without a valve, will help slow the spread. I'm not debating it...N95s are the best (reasonably) .....It's not liberal to want to defend and protect your neighbor. I'm as conservative as they come, and I'm telling you wearing a mask while indoors in public is advisable guidance.

No, I'm not saying put underwear around yur head and call it a mask...What are we, 9? Are we children? Do you need to be told what a mask is simply because the hostess at the restaurant where your dining has no idea how to deal with is event? Politicians are brain dead...doesn't mean you have to be.

The government should not be mandating masks. Way beyond their pay grade. However, private establishments should be free to require masks for entry. It's really not that fking hard.

When I am skiing I wear a helmet, when I am out in the bright sun I use sunscreen, while driving my car I wear my seat belt, while flying I always wear my seat belt, I take my blood pressure meds daily, what the fuck is wrong with wearing a mask in public...
I can still die from anyone of these scenarios, but I will still try to be prevent it.

So the problem is the change in advice from guys like Fauci. And it's not just masks that have flip flopped. But lets say masks work really well and stop the spread (and I think they do based on my experience with an outbreak). Then why wouldn't the first thing you would do is outfit people with masks? (That was the first thing we did at work.) I know, the first responders needed them, there was a shortage, etc. But if you want to relieve the first responders, you stop the infections by people wearing masks. Or not? Instead we shut the economy down.

Now they seem to say you need prolonged exposure to the virus (CDC is using 15 min). So does a mask walking thru the supermarket really do anything? Vs. a mask during a hour meeting in a small conference room? These experts need to pick a lane and maybe not be so sure of things when they babble on TV.

I am beginning to have some issues wearing a mask. Everything from claustrophobia, anxiety, to respiratory issues. It could be that the mask is dirty, but sometimes with it on I find I am coughing, having difficulty breathing, and have to pull it down below by nose or above my mouth and take a little break.

You are still missing the fundamental point in this. The mask does not protect you. That is why in the beginning they said wearing a mask was futile. No change there. The fuc*ing mask will still not protect you.

BUT, huge but, WEARING A MASK WILL KEEP AN INFECTED PERSON FROM GIVING COVID TO SOMEONE ELSE!!!
If you read the attached pdf file in post #174 it illustrates the point by running a simple experiment that Shows masks prevent the spread of disease from exhaled breath. Actually just look at the pictures.

Advice changes as the scientist get better information. They used to think asbestos was safe. They used to think smoking was safe. Miners used to deep breath fine powdered aluminum dust deep in their lungs before going underground to protect them. For things that might matter, I still follow the current medical advice from real Doctors. I don’t care if it was different before when Grandma was a baby. And I am not so stupid to think I know better than the doctors about how to slow the spread of COVID.
