Face Shields..

Look at the settings on your phone....there is a COVID tracker setup already on there....they updated the software in the background a month or so ago...when everyone was having phone "trouble"
Which phones? Apple or Android? Which mfg?

I have one of each - its on both phones.... check daily to make sure it's off.
The facility that Apple and Google implemented is only an API, not an app. It can only be invoked by a public health app and then only if the user allows it. It only tracks proximity to other phones, not location and does this anonymously.

Don't confuse simple with easy. We ration goods and services, including health care, in the USA by price. It's that simple.

Nobody is denied healthcare in the US. Anyone can walk into an ER and be attended to.

The states offer Medicaid to the poor. There are free clinics. Free birth control. Nothing is “rationed”. You may not get the concierge service you’d like if you have poor insurance, you may have to take generic drugs.

Inspite of this what the insurance companies are doing is almost criminal. Add to that big pharma.

I’ve been in hospitals all throughout Latin America, UK, Canada, all thru Nordics. There isn’t another country I’d want to be in if I needed care.

Changing directions, it was great to watch a hockey game last night, even if the Leafs lost to Columbus in game 1.
Wierd seeing the stands empty and the seats covered.

Watching the game I had a great idea for the NHL and for any other pro sports league to bring the crowd back into the games. They should build an application that will stream audio from a large number homes and bars around the country(ies) and in particular from the cities where the teams are from. Then the app would combine all the audio into a crowd sound, and stream it over the airwaves (and maybe even in the arena/stadiums for players to hear). As long as there was not much audio delay, it would bring some aural excitement that is missing now.

I thought they were piping crowd noises into the arena.
Maybe wrong.

Singapore is a very authoritarian country, and Hong Kong is China. Very different. You will love this one though. Canada has developed a contact tracing app for devices. It is totally voluntary. It does not use GPS, but uses Bluetooth to communicate with other phones. There is anonymous tracking of who you have come into Bluetooth range of and that history is on your phone. Not names, just an identifier number/code. If you are tested positive, you enter that in the app. Then system will alert others that you have been near in the past 14 days that they may have been in contact with someone that had/has COVID. It just says you have been exposed. Not where, or who. The purpose is to help people know when they have potentially been exposed so they can watch for symptoms or get tested.

You won’t be surprised to hear that I have installed the app and have no concerns with the privacy aspects.

Me too, I also downloaded it.

Is Canada using the Apple/Android API as the enabler for its app or did you create something of your own?

I was buying safety supplies form a wholesaler a few days ago. They had just opened the retail part of the business. I needed hearing protection muffs for the jetboat. I asked the clerk if any clients had reported any sick people. Answer was one customer who was in the recycling business. They had 2 employees catch the virus and had recovered. Has anyone been sick or does any one know first had some one who has been sick. From the doctors I have been seeing the comment was elderly and mostly the sick ones are the ones that seem to catch it and die.

It’s here too. Contact Tracing. Wellness apps. Your iPhone is tracking you. If you test for COVID your cell phone will be tracked.
My wife does not have a cell phone perhaps the governments of the world will give all its citizens cell phones with the app built in. If our countries can give the non working money a cell phone is not much of an expense.

I don't know. I expect that Canada having strong data privacy laws, would have used the API's so as not to bypass Apple's and Googles security protocols.

Do you know if it is live or canned? It sounds to me like its just canned that they turn up the volume at times. I was thinking live so when the crowds at home/bars celebrate a goal or a play.

I was at the dentist last month and he asked me that question. I was the first person in about 250 tries that responded yes. We had two employees catch it. A friend's husband was on a ventilator. Wife's friend caught it. Neighbors kid and girlfriend caught it. All recovered.

That is only partially true. You can't walk into the ER and get a knee replacement. If you have a chronic illness, the ER doesn't help with maintenance. And government provided healthcare is rationed -- it has to be as it isn't unlimited. The rationing is done by wait times. Simple economics.

Yes. Good friend, 30 y.o. with no co-morbidities has been on a vent for 40 days now. She is getting better. My slipmate is an MD. His whole family had it back in March after his nurse daughter brought it from NYC.

Yes. 30 something y.o. friend had it. He describes it as having a bad flu/strep combination with absolutely no energy. A woman and her daughter at my plant had it and recovered. Also several people in shipping had it and recovered. One 69 y.o. friend simply wasn't feeling right and took the test and was positive. His only sign was he had lost his taste/smell - otherwise no other symptoms.

Ah ha! It IS Bill Gates behind all of this. Microsoft has always wanted to play in the cell phone market. Windows phone was a failure, but millions of COVID tracker phones is just what he always wanted!

That is your choice, but you also wont be alerted if you have come in close contact with someone that is positive. You will not know at all until (or I guess, unless) you get sick and get a test. By then, if you are sick, you will have been a carrier for as long as 14 days or more. That is the whole point. So taking away the mask effectiveness issue, this seems like a good societal thing to do.
