Official 1998 Sea Ray Sundancer 290 Thread

How do you change the light bulbs in the OEM 1998 wall sconces.

It has that plastic shade and I tried to pull it off even wiggling from side to side and I really don't want to break them.

And what LED light bulb has folks gone with for the little round puck lights above the sink and in the bathroom. I bought some white G4 6000 K led bulbs and they are a little to long.

The whole white plastic lampshade pops off. If I remember right, if you squeeze them and wiggle, they will un-clip.

I don't remember the part number, but Menards sells the LED replacements for those lights. I just removed the bulb and took them to the store to match them.

Yoi can jump it just like a starter. Will work in a jam
Ok thanks Jeff. I was thinking I’ll put a screwdriver across, and have someone press the up switch, just to confirm it’s the solenoid, before I replace it.

Shark, only other thing it could be is the trim discs on the drive. One is to guage and one is to adjust height. I also believe if you disconect the bullet connectors coming into the boat it will overide the height switch and should work if thats your problem. I would start there. I did all my solenoids once and did not fix it. Was the switches in the back

Hey Ducky, I changed them with these. You can compare old vs new. I’m still not a big fan of how I covered the existing hole but the Queen says stop messing with it and move on.

I also changed these today, a much warmer/cooler light. How ever you want to say it.

Everyone like my electrical tape latch? I’m missing the part inside the cabinet. I should have taken pictures.

The lights are not as blue as they look in the picture, much more of a cool white.

Hey crew, here’s what’s on the inside of the medicine cabinet door. Any Ideas?

Anyone have comments good or bad on the NOCO Genius 10x3 battery charger? I’m wanting to get that little 2 bank charger replaced but you can’t find the ProNautic anywhere
Thought I would throw an update here. Since I couldn’t find the other charger, this one came highly recommended by Super Electrician.
I ordered it from Hodges Marine, payed $470.71 including tax. Received it in 4 days. Install slated for 24 August. I’ll post pictures.

How often does everyone change out their outdrive anodes?

Mine are one year old and one big disk under the cavitation plate is missing and all the others are pretty eaten.

Too many variables. It’s best to change them about the time they get “pretty eaten”. :D:D

Good to hear, I think I need to replace my port drive UP solenoid. I believe it's stuck down, but gauge not working so hard to confirm exactly with the boat in the water. When I press the button up, it clicks. When I press down, I hear the motor whine, like it's already down. Makes me think it's the solenoid, just have to take the time to confirm and hopefully replace it. I can barely see it, buried near the transom, but you give me hope that I can get to it, with some sweat and cursing!

Hello, I have the same problem with my 1988 Sea Ray, Port side trim works but Starboard side trim is stuck down. Do you have a picture of the port and starboard solenoid locations?

My boat for best performance, trim tabs all the way down and drives all the way in all the time. I only play with trim tabs if boat is listing one side or another. Planes best that way.
Onlt time i ever play with the drives is for shallow water. And what i did was put a small sticker from a p touch by the throttle. Up in front of throttle and down behind throttle. It helps with confusion. Simplify things. But my guages and everything works. Just know if you bring the drives up with the switch they will only let the rams go to 21 inch extension. Spec for boat, if you use the trailer button they will go all the way up. Never use trailer when in motion, could go way to far up. My 2 cents
So Jeff, I was looking for this, glad I found it. Now, my trim tabs “look” like they are all the way up. Motor runs for the port tab (pretty sure) but tab does nothing. Starboard does nothing. I’ve seen the trouble shooting video on YouTube. Where is the pump and fluid tank? If you tell me next to the drive trim relays, I will not be happy.

This is the one i got, had to move the bracket a little so it did not break the glass when it closes completly. Just check View attachment 108451 stroke length
Big shout out to you Jeff. Ordered the same one cleaned everything up, oiled the vent hinge and it works perfect. Only glitch were the mounting pins, one was too big to fit in the hole. I used the old mounts. I used a screw in the glass side hole to get it to move in and out. Works perfect, off to Lowes tomorrow for the proper pin. I love little wins! Surprising how much air comes in when you open it up. I had a video but it was in a text stream that I deleted, I’ make another one tomorrow, Yay!

Hate to tell ya jon but yes. Its back there. Ya have 1 pump for each drive. Port and starboard. Then 1 for tabs. The a hole from sea ray put them way in the back

Well thanks a bunch Jeff, Guess I’ll give the marina guys another shot, so to be clear you just leave the trim tabs all the way down all the time?

Jon,
I pretty much run with mine fully down all the time. Pretty rare to use them to level out the boat side-to-side. Joys of a 10.5 beam..;)

I use the lower unit to trim her out at speed.
