Pull the heads time. Can I break in the port by running it at the dock over 2000, and varying the rpms over time?
How do I know when it's "broken in"? Oil Pressure change?

You can break in a camshaft 2000 to 2,500 to 1,700 in neutral no problem just give it about 20 minutes. Don't just stay at one RPM very a little bit

Generally.....break in is associated with the short block not so much the heads. New short blocks are vulnerable to startup wear on the pistons, rings, cam, lifters and bearings. In your case.....you are good to go with a reconditioned head and properly adjusted valves.

Just make sure that the machine work doesn't change the valve adjustment geometry.

Oh is he just talking about putting a new head on it with a new pushrod That's nothing You can torque that down and go

Run at 1700 to 2200 rpm with a good oil. Your not looking for zinc content a good oil like Mercury semi or full synthetic. Use the weight the manufacturer recommends. Mercury oils have a very high film strength and that what you need

How can we make this even more fun? I know, let's throw a Cat 3 dirty side at the boat for a couple of days and see what's left.........

Doesn't your Gen VI have a roller cam? If so, they don't need break in like a flat tappet does, however, it still does need break in on the engine itself.

Tearing down the Starboard engine now. Frozen valve on *5. Intake and port head will be off this week to evaluate. Port engine runs like a top. Welcome to my world.
Now, if I find the guy at Merritt that thought ty-wrapping the hoses going from the circ pump to the cockpit "heater" all through the chase and side coaming was a good idea..........

Harbor Freight "Jaws of Life" hydraulic press adapter got the intake manifold off in 5 seconds. My new go to toy.

New heads in the future....... Believe it or not, I'm still way ahead on money, and way behind on time.
