My wife and I are considering purchasing a used 2007 SD 50. In working out an annual budget, I keep running into the number for maintenance costs of "10% of the cost of the boat". Anyone have a better idea for the actual costs?

We will change oil annually (cheap insurance)but not sure what else to expect. Any other suggestions?

What do you consider maintenance? boat washing? annual detail? just engine service? what about the generator and other items that need servicing? what else is on the boat? what about batteries?

It's not a simple question. you could budget 5k a year and use that pretty easily on oil and filters, an annual boat detail, and some washes.

We can help you with needed maintenance and cost estimates, but honestly, the 10% number is better described as total overhead cost. When you consider slip rent and insurance, it becomes a more understandable number.

I have owned the same diesel powered boat for 17 years, it is well maintained and needs nothing and I spend no where near 10% on maintenance alone, but when you add $8K for a slip and $3K for insurance (Florida coastal area), the total comes close.
