2008 Searay 340 Port Engine Overheating

It s

it started! Watching the temp gage now to see if it starts getting too hot

Before you start the engine next time open the hatch and watch what happens when the engine is turned over. See what turns and what doesn't. I had this once with an alternator that was locking up. Once you broke it free it would spin but after sitting again it would lock in place and slip when starting the boat.

If it is the alternator it "should" be an easy job to replace as you have good access. I also like to replace the opposite side when one goes figuring its not too far behind. So, when I did my alternators it was easy on one side but the other would not come free from the bracket. Once I got a new bracket the rest of the job was easy.

I would also check out the sea water pump. It is located at lower left when looking at the front of the engine.

Have a 1998 Searay Sundancer 270 with an outboard. Temperature gage slightly elevated. What should I check first? It is on the river in a wet slip. Very low water level on low tide. Boat actually can't move on low tide. Spark plugs changed last year.

On Labor Day (coming back from San Juan Islands) I got an engine temp alarm on my Port Engine but both temperature readings on my smartcraft were around 180 which is nominal at 3400 RPM. I slowed down and the alarm went away, I then drove at 3400 RPM for about 3 hours before the temperature started ramping up and alarmed at about 200 and maxed out at 230 (some smoke coming from the engine).

I let it cool down to 170 and tried to restart and got a low voltage alarm.

What should I check first as to the cause for this?
i just had sa be problem on our 2007 340 DA, temp spiked to 175 , luckily i was 15 minutes away from marina, i suspected Impeller , but when i removed the. belt to remove pump, the pulley and shaft came out, all bearing seals shot to hell. I removed pump, inspected impeller , is was ok. I got a new pump with shaft installed, repressed the pulley back on, reinstalled and everything works fine. The biggest challenge is to remove and replace, there is just no room, pump is ate lowest part of engine. Good luck
