290 sundancers 1994-midyear 97 "We need a thread"

No it helps a lot, I’m a gear head and handy with tools, (I own Jaguars ) The marina where we have the slip also has a DIY yard and full service mechanics. I’m just getting older. I’ll have a 6 in front of my age in June, so I don’t move as well as I used to. I was hoping to get it for under 10k but with unknown mechanicals I think I’m going to pass on it.

Thanks!

I have an XJS V12 convertible which I tinker with, too... :O.

This summer I'll be 56 but in the unfortunate position of having to start life all over again, it appears. Energy and resources are now severely limited and I'm becoming selective in my projects...

Unless that boat runs properly as is, and you can get it for a song, time might be better spent enjoying something ready to go.

Yep, that’s what the Queen and I have decided, I’m not opposed to cleaning and some of the other routine stuff but engines and out drives will take the fun out of it. Already started a new search. I have an 01 XJR and an 06 X-type btw

I have a 1994 Sundancer 290 with twin 4.3 mercruiser stern drives. Boat had set for a few years before getting it. Check oil and all fluids got the engines running. engines crank andrand idle fine until approximately 3,500 RPM at that point advancing the throttle will not change the engine speed. Checked fuel and all appears clear. Both engines will rev to exactly the same rpm and hold that speed regardless of any action. Any ideas on what is holding them back. What size props are everyone running?
Hey JAC, not sure if you’re still having this issue, have you looked at the carbs/TBI’s which ever you have. I would with the engines off, take the flame arresters off, have someone slowly push the throttles open and see that they are going fully open. If they do go fully open then there’s got to be another issue somewhere.

Just a thought
Jon

Hi Guys,
Looking at a 1994 290DA with twin 4.3 LX (730 hrs) and genset.Boat was loaded from factory. Comes with a triple axle trailer, only used to haul out for service. Fresh water and undercover (Tennessee River) is whole life. Tall bimini over helm and full camper canvas. Are there any regular problems to expect during survey/ sea trial?
Thanks, Howard

Check the steering pin/transom assembly closely. Being in fresh water it shouldn't be an issue.

Now that she's back in the water and running well, I figured it's time for a bump to this thread...
After all the work, she's due for a serious bath. She's earned it.

Just curious, what is the hose and shut off valve coming from the manifolds for?
To make it easier to drain the antifreeze without making a mess of the bilge.
100 mile round trip without a hiccup today. So good to be back in the water. Even saw about a dozen dolphin on the York River.
4,200 rpms and 35 mph looks like my wot.

What do you guys with a single 454 and B3 cruise at? 3,800 rpms & ~30 mph was nice and comfortable, but I was only seeing a bit over 1 mpg. Am I right that optimal cruising efficiency is just above minimal planing speed?
Just cleaned up an area in my back woods that'll be good for storing her and a few other toys and haulers. The wife was all done looking at it in front of the pool. I don't know her problem is...
