340 DA 6.2s vs 8.1s

Why not look at a 360 with 8.1's. Plenty of room, well relatively speaking between them. You can stand between them, and the price is almost the same.

that is correct...the beam is 11.5' and dry weight without genny is 13,000 lbs......I believe this is about the same as your newer 320.....

I have a dock friend that has a 2008 330 with 8.1's and closed cooling and V drives and genny.....not sure what the beam is but i believe it is smaller than my 340.......you can barely even see the floor of the ER when he raises the engine room hatch......

I sent that picture to Sea Ray hoping I would make the cover of Sea Ray Living. The description of the magazine reads "Sea Ray Living is the premier boating lifestyle magazine, celebrating the countless incredible experiences that Sea Ray ownership makes possible." Countless incredible experiences.... :smt043

Try Sea Ray Alternate Living Magazine.

Thanks guys for some real good info (and some hysterical pics). I just put a deposit on a real clean 02' 340 with 8.1s. Survey next. Even though the engine room is pretty tight, the 8.1s made most sense for me in salt.

I owned an 03 340 with the 6.2's, loved the boat but was disappointed with the cruise speed. I happened on to a set of props on ebay that were an exact fit but larger in diameter by 1" (I think they were 18 x 19) I remember that on the prop chart they belonged on the similar year 320 with 6.2's. I had them checked out by Holland propeller and installed them on our boat. What an improvement! I picked up an average of 2.5 mph per standard rpm ranges. Loved being able to cruise at 26 - 28 mph without killing the engines.

Curious...what's your RPM to get 26-28mph?

3400 rpm 23.8 mph 13 gph
3500 rpm 24.5 mph 13.5 gph
3700 rpm 27 mph 15 gph
3200 rpm 21 mph 11.5 gph
That was the data I gathered using gps and the smart gauges on the boat.

That's great! What a difference propping can make.
