Hi there - I am looking to buy a 340 Searay, and one thing that got brought up by some boater friends is that the v-drives force you to crane lift the boat out of the water anytime I need something serviced (instead of hauling out with a trailer). Their thought was that since you can't tilt the drive (like a stern drive setup) you aren't able to load the boat onto a trailer at the marina. Couldn't you have a special trailer to accommodate this?

My 320 V-Drive has never seen a crane. It would be afraid of a crane as I am sure it is scared of heights.... Been pulled out of the water on a trailer it’s entire life. BTW good luck with your 340 they are awesome boats !!!

As long as the ramp has enough depth and the trailer is properly set I would think there would not be a problem. However, I can't see regularly trailering a 340SDA as being fun. If its just for off season storage then it might be but certainly not on a regular basis. If this is just for relocation after purchase - just leave it all in the hands of the transporter.

As others have indicated, there are trailers made for V-drive boats, I have one for my 310.

Welcome to CSR!

I had a trailer for my 330 Sundancer and used it frequently. We trailered it from our area to Portland, OR twice and over the Cascade Mountains and back for a trip to the San Juan Islands. This photo was taken when I was putting the canvas back on after trailering it to Anacortes.

Get your state wide load permits, get the wide load signs for the front and back, orange flags for the widest part of the boat (I zip tied them to the bow rails) and be aware of any restrictions on the times you can tow or not tow, etc.

If you don't own a tow vehicle and don't really want to lay out the bucks to buy one, consider renting one from Hertz or Budget or one of those other car rental companies. We did that and paid the $175 per day for the rental. Cheaper than owning a tow rig.

Full service marinas have trailers that are fully adjustable for many different types of boats. VDrive boats are very common and present no special challenges for competent marina staff.

My 370 EC on a trailer!
