340 SUNDANCER THREAD

Just purchased a 340 Sundancer 2004 moving up from a 290 Sundancer 1996. We have kept the smaller boat on a lift at our home. But it can not handle the weight of the new boat. What is the groups experiance of keeping the 340 on a lift? Should I upgrade the lift or just have it removed and keep the 340 in the water? Any other pros and cons about using a lift are also welcome.

If you keep it in the water you'll get a little brown scum line just above the water line/bottom paint. It's easy to clean if you stay on top of it. If you keep it on a lift you'll lose your prime on the air conditioner or the water system. Can't remember which right now. Keeping the boat in the water will allow you to boat later into the year if thats an issue.

What is best way to clean up the 'covers' on the salon sink and trash bin. They have discoloered and have a few scratches. Is there is special finish or paint I can apply?
Do you mean the solid surface corian type material? If so, I believe you can sand it with very fine sandpaper.
If it is acrylic, then it needs to be buffed out with a polish. Fltiz makes a buffing wheel for a drill for that.

Bill,
As you well know the advantages of a boat on a lift far out way any SMALL disadvantages. As for the air conditioner, once you run the boat it primes itself 99% of the time. We have discussed this in private correspondence and I will repeat it for the public, once you own a lift there is no going back to letting it sit in the water all the time. Peace of mind, resale value, ease to work on. These are just a few of the advantages you will enjoy. Take care and be ready for this big one coming up.

Re: 340 SUNDANCER THREAD: 2002 340 Sundancer "forward bilge pump"???

George,

You are correct that the AC will prime once the boat is backin the water. I had my 290 on a lift since 2000. We never had to bottom paintagain and storage at home in place of a marina is a lot more secure. My problemis the old lift will need to be removed and a new one with the 8 piling to supportthe weight of the 340 and the upgrade in power to 220 volts for the 4 motors, but You what they say got to pay to play!

Dear Fellow 340 owners......My boat came with an OEM sunpad which is flat, about 2 inches thick, folds in half and snaps onto the grab rails on either side. It has served us well and has even retained it's full Sunbrella navy blue color. However, it is not the most comfortable thing and requires a folded towel for a headrest. I am envious every time I see one of those "reclining" sunpads on a foredeck. No smashed up pillows for headrests, no backstrain to sit and read. Does anyone have an aftermarket sunpad that reclines? Suggestions for replacing my current sunpad? Ideally I'd like to have a well supported sunpad lounger with a built in pillow. Thanks!

Bob,

I have not heard of a place with ready made sun pads for any boats... Most people have custom made cushions from a canvas maker... My wife has made custom cushions for our friends' boats. She is finally getting around to making some for our boat. What I would do is make a pattern and a sketch of what you want and get a price from a local canvas shop.

Good morning all. Love my 99 sundancer. First boat and we spend almost every weekend on her. This forum is great, good ideas all around. Put in a 21" Philips flat screen and replacing the water pump this weekend. Minimal problems and a great ride. Like the 3 blade vs 4 blade discussions. Might do that next year. I wish everyone well and enjoy, we do. Thanks to everyone for posting.

Alarm

This past weekend, I started getting an audible alarm of 2 beeps (in a 6 knot zone), then a constant beep soon after I got on plane. I shut down the engines & checked the fluids, etc. and all was fine. The constant alarm stopped, but the 2 beep alarm continued. I shut down each engine and discovered that it was the starboard engine causing the alarm. Note that the alarm was NOT coming from the system monitor panel. Any thoughts about the cause of the alarm?

I get two types of alarms... One when the engine overheats, low oil pressure, high trans temp, or other engine alarm. The other alarm is a high pitch alarm from the monitor panel, when a high bilge pump goes of or other monitored system.

Rod, how about 2 beeps every 60 seconds? That's what happenned to me on yesterday. Also, "Over Revving" or something like that, and then "Guardian Mode" displayed on the smart craft Port side Guage. What Gives:huh:???

Ok I'm going out there in a few minutes with a scan tool to see what error codes show up.

OK, ran tests and talked to the mechanic, discovered that it's the "IAC" thingy. Is this a common part to fail?

Sounds like Kreole Kid and I have the same issue - although I certainly wasn't over revving in a 6 knot zone! I'll go over everything again with a fine tooth comb next time I'm bilge diving...

Yes, very. Several of us carried spares after several others had failures and lost weekends of fun. Similar part to automotive engines, but not very corrosion resistant, if I remember correctly.

My dealer had one in stock for $118. Any suggestions on finding spares for cheaper pricing. The lowest price I saw on the net was about $96 bucks.
Also where is that spongy filter? can it be cleaned and re-used or does simply need to be replaced?

Went out Wednesday to shoot a video for a friend, and I believe, the 2nd one is "The Money Shot".
