420/44 DB Owners Club

My cut-less barring puller arrived today.
Would love to try it out but it’s currently 5 degrees outside. Seems to be very well made. Will update you guys once I use it!

Maybe a silly question but did they remove the white sealant first or just over white with black sealant?
Old sealant was removed. They billed me for 29.5 hours.

For the SB without the cockpit bench, is there a way to get one? Are they molded in place? Something that can be added?

No, they are removable. They are pinned in place on both ends. I would imagine finding one would be next to impossible unless someone wanted to sell one.

So finding a 42 w/o the 480ce and having a bench will be a challenge. Can't find bridge AC except on a 44 or two and those are significantly more expensive.

The bridge AC and bench would be straight forward retrofits.

I would like my bench to be a eutectic type fridge cooler. Saw one on a 44 that the owner obviously had made. Had a pic but can’t seem to find it

Why don’t you care for the 480 ?
If not over propped, and cylinder head upgraded should have lots of life in those motors.
Did the 42 even come with the qsc 500 ?

My memory is the QSC-500 became available in 2006, the same year they made the name transition from the 420 to the 44. Also, I think, but not positive about this, the next significant addition was in 2008 when DTS became available.

I am sure you are correct @bajturner. My 06 44DB had the 500s and I know of several 05's that have the 480CE. I second that if the heads have been upgraded and the props tuned properly you will have essentially the the same boat. I have worked on several 04 thru 08 SDs and DBs and found very few differences in the boats save the engines. Unless I was dead set on having a 'newer' boat, I would not hesitate to buy a 420 over a 44DB if the extra 50 to 80 grand was a game killer for me.
On the rear bench topic, I wonder if the molds even exist anymore, was it something that Sea Ray made inhouse or was that farmed out to a contractor? Some digging at Sea Ray might pay off.

Only because finding a 42 with 480ce engines where the head upgrade has already been done is impossible. Hours range from 400-1800 and all have the original heads and I suspect over propped. Ignorance is bliss, brokers are unaware and the owners think you are insane when you tell them their cream buff baby of theirs is a ticking time bomb. Head upgrade estimate of cost would be?

Think I'm doing a bit of a pivot. Started with the idea of a 42 DB and not a larger SunDancer, then fell in love with the 500/52 Dancer but I can't stomach spending about 350k right now. So, we are back to looking for a 42 DB and not a 44 due to the price difference. The 44 DB are listed for more than the 500 Dancer. 44's from 335-399 and they are eventually selling. The 50 DA we really like is 350.

Introducing myself here on this thread. I have been on the 380 forum for 4 1/2 years and we sold the 380 this fall.

We thought we would be boatless but "Life's Good" came to us in a divine intervention. She never made it to the market.

She has been ours for 2 whole days now. We are bringing the boat from Gig Harbor to home in La Conner. We have a decent weather window with low winds and maybe some sun peeking out in the afternoons. We could have done the trip in one day but what is the fun in that. We have an all weather boat and we are loving it.

The boat is immaculate and is a tribute to LG111, the previous owner. We are in contact so questions are being answered.

I read through the entire forum a week or so ago. Thanks for the info!

Cheers

And he installed the Presto davits on that boat if I remember. Let us know how you like them?

On our 380,we had an Olsson Davit one the swim step. That is a lot of weight on the stern of that boat. It worked well but was always a cable tango getting them hooked up....really tough in choppy seas.

Our boat buddies all seem to favor Sea Wise Davits. I do not and I prefer to keep all my fingers connected to my body. They are good at stabilizing the dingy for getting on and off.

I have tried this Presto Lift and it seems the best set up for us short of a hydraulic swim platform.

Adios!

What are these wires sticking up to the right of the steering wheel?

I would guess it is a mount for a TV screen (maybe connected to the navigation).
I notice some have an Aircon outlet in that position and some have nothing. Mine is the latter

I have another question on the wire picture...

What size Garmin is mounted in the center. I want to replace the Raymarine.

Thanks!

Biggest you can fit on that panel with the gauges is 12”.

I got a 12” Axiom into my space.
I bought a new blank panel so we were able to move the gauges outboard slightly but a 12” was the only screen that’d fit
