460 DA Owners Thread

I have the joystick/toggle and remote control (actually 2 remotes) all I was trying to do was the process of elimination if it worked with one option and not the other. I would check your wiring at the helm (mine has a snap connector) and at the motor itself. Dielectric grease is a good option for all electrical connections...

not sure what you're asking me. I hit the little stick thing towards the right, it works fine. Left, no bueno.

A few years back mine worked fine with the joystick/toggle but wouldn't work with the remote... I found out when they burglarized the boat they stole the receiver for the remote control that was mounted next to the power amp for the stereo.

Gotcha. I don't have any remotes just the joystick .... I was considering pulling it off and looking around. Weird that only one side works maybe connector is bad.

any ideas?
loose connection on the motor reversing relay, or possible bad relay that actuates the motor.
That is general advice. I have no idea how your rig is set up, but I'd imagine a motor control similar to an anchor windless. The relays reverse polarity on the DC motor, and it turns the other way. Same principal for tilt and trim.

UPDATE: I pulled the main controller with the joystick --- swapped hot wires from starboard to port and port worked. Then all the sudden neither of them worked. It's like there is a short somewhere. I checked for a fuse down by the actual bow thruster and could not find one -- that doesn't mean there's not one there --- it's in a really awkward spot and I'm a bigger dude and can only get so much of my body down there. on the main panel with all the switches (24V switch), if i turn it on and off, I can hear a "click" so I suspec the main fuse is good --- just replaced that about 2 months ago.

Has anyone changed windlasses from the progress 1 to the project 1000? My progress 1 crapped out and we decided to replace new as the unit was seized. While the project 1000 is a drop in unit, the space it takes up under the deck is much wider and doesn’t fit, as the motor hits the aft bulkhead. Additionally, the mounting bolts are too short to get a nut on them to tighten down.

Anyone done this conversion before and have any helpful hints? Or if you changed to some other windlass what did you change to?

I did this conversion last year in my 2001 460 sundancer. It was not easy but it is doable. I would recommend getting getting longer studs about a inch. I had to notch one of the frames which I re-glassed to make the motor fit. It worked perfectly.

replaced the 50amp fuse with new one —- it’s not that. Is there another fuse somewhere I should be looking? Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thank you

Is it a Vetus thruster?

If yes, there is a small fuse on the thruster itself under the cover. I think it is like 5 amps, but I can't remember exactly, I just know there is one under the cover.

Hi All,
I hope your boating season went well!!!

Time for some winter updates, not too many but a few. I didn't look hard but I know someone shared how to replace the screen inserts on the port hole windows in the salon and heads. Anybody have the quick answer on where to get the replacement screens?

Thanks!!

Replaced it …. Still nothing :(

Sounds like maybe your joystick has gone bad. Not sure how to test that would have to look at the diagram to jump wires to verify right and left

Any idea where I can get a new one?
Probably call ventus, give them your thruster info and they should have a way to test it at the thruster.

We have a Xantrex Sine Wave iNVERTER/ Charger model 3012. We run four 6volt AGM batteries with it and the last brand went toast after three years.

We only run the 110 outlets and fridge off of the inverter. Not looking to power anything more.

I am not looking to go to lithium batteries as that would be more of a project than I want.

Those of you using a inverter. What brand of 6volt AGM batteries have you had good luck with?

The issue I have is when you look up reviews online they inadvertently pull you back to some ad for a brands.

Bought it, connected it up and it worked for all of one second and blew main (50amp) fuse. Put new fuse in and poof , same thing. These main fuses are incredibly expensive —- suggestions on what to do now?

Never mind - I figured it out. Ugh I was using wrong fuse — it doesn’t take 50amp it takes 200amp.
