Ok so interesting...

I am seeing @2300 rpm 147 port & 140 starboard running for 30 minutes in 80 degree sea water. Both my engine coolants are at 174. So I was thinking I might pull my trans cooler out and inspect / flush on the bench. Being it is the lowest cooler in the salt water loop I am thinking more prone to build up and debris. It just bugs me the almost 10 degree difference.
Mine has had that difference since I owned the boat in 2021. At this point, I'm just watching for changes.

Interesting.....the entire cooling system was done on my boat this winter. As soon as I'm back in the water I will post my trans temps. Last season my port transmission temp alarmed as it got to 190 degrees prompting the service I had done over winter. The engine temps remained at 174.

Interesting - for the anodes to work they must have electrical conductivity to the things they are threaded into. Isn't a typical thread sealant, especially with PTFE going to tend to electrically isolate?
I thought the same. The below video I found from Seaboard marine may help clear things up....

Too many times I've had to drill out the zinc brass plugs because they get completely unmovable threaded in stainless.
So, I've evolved to a copper based Anti seize. Nary a problem since.

Boatzinc order due to arrive this week. I change all zincs every year. Boat is in the water only 5 months. So sad

Greetings,

I am considering a 2007 480DA, but have several concerns and was hoping the forum could shed some light. I'm coming out of a 360DA and have read the thread from the beginning. I must say the threads are very informative. Please chime on these concerns, as I'm not familiar w diesel engines.

1. The oil pressure, at load, varies between engines. is this normal?
2. The voltage on Port engine was low. Alternator?

3. Both AC units turn on, but do not effect ambient temperature. What are possible faults?
Any feedback is greatly appreciated....

1. My oil pressure reading has differed from side to side from the day of my sea trial to today. You can double check against the pressure gauge on the engine. It may be as simple as a difference in the pressure sender between engines. You could swap the senders and see if the problem follows, but frankly I wouldn't worry about it if the gauges show good.

2. Get alternator checked. It may be on the way out.

3. When you say the AC turns on, what does that mean? Does the fan/blower run? Does the compressor turn on? Is the seacock for the cooling water open and the strainer basket clear? Is the cooling water pump pushing water? We need a bit more on this issue.

Welcome to the club. The 48 is the best boat Sea Ray ever built, but I am biased! We absolutely love ours.

Oil pressure normal because of the remote filter assembly. Alternator might be bad or battery is going bad would have to test further but no big deal there anyway to have it rebuilt.
When you say both AC units??? The boat has 4. How are you testing them what is the ambient temperature? Any codes on the tstats?

Appreciate your reply.

Do your pressures vary greatly +/- 10 like the readings provided?

Per surveyor, A/C turns on and blowers run, but does not provide heating/cooling. Airflow is consistent with cabin temperature. Not sure about seacock/basket, but would assume surveyor checked. Not sure if its too cold to run system or if there is an issue.

Ok great to know about the oil pressure.

Im going off the surveyor's report, so I haven't seen the Tstats, but I would expect he would have advised of any faults on Tstats. Surveyor tested operation/function on/off then checked if the temp adjusted per input. Not sure of temp at time of inspection

These were my results when I purchased mine, the oil difference is normal!, good luck with your purchase!

They vary by a nominal 10 psig and it is very consistant. Like @ocgrant said, the Starboard engine has a remote filter assembly which causes the higher pressure.

Usually the Port battery bank is the "House" bank also. You'll have to understand what the house loads were when obtaining that data. Those loads could have very easily pulled the voltage down.

I would ask the seller to come back and crank the AC units all the way down and see if the turn on. Again if you are in the cold the ambient temp may be too cold to get them to engage. Your surveyor should have done a better job there. To me that’s a big deal as replacing a bunch of them can be $$$. I would want a second opinion on the condition of them. IMO.

And eyes on them for a condition assessment.

Understood. Thanks for replying!
