48 sundancer cabinets

Sea Ray did not use the "Pick 2" method to which you refer.

They bought a laminate product known as Vitricore and used it in the boats. The original manufacturer of the product had sold the rights to another company who changed the formulation before selling the product to Sea Ray causing the delamination that Sea Ray experienced. The original manufacturer was unable to get the name back and now produces the product under the name Nuvacor with the original formulation.

Sea Ray was the victim of someone else's "Pick 2" philosophy.

OK. We can both pull down our zippers and piss on each others leg. The fact remains the interior millwork was inferior. I cannot believe it took years to clear up. I cannot believe, particularly of those shelling out very large money for a new boat, that the problem was not brought to SR corporate. It makes no sense at all.

Either the QA, Customer Service, or both were asleep. Regardless of thin margins, if you want repeat customers, you have to bite the bullet. That's just intellligent business.

Your turn.

Ill try to describe what i have seen, should have taken a picture. I have the vitrecore in my 2004 42 da. This was differant. It appeared to be a veneer that had laquer over it, for the glossy finish. The laquer appeared to have dried up at the seams and cracked. Where i saw this was not on the actual cabinet door but on the top part of the frame, on the top cabinets. It was where they seamed 2 pieces of the laminate together. Both 48da i saw had the same condition. One was a 2009, and the other a 2010. Member Shinskyr also was with me, maybe he can chime in and describe this better.

I have the matte cabinets and the veneer appears to be real wood, but I sure would like the solid wood cabinets coming out of Sykes Creek. Sea Ray, how about carving a set out for me? Sea Ray should open up a custom shop.

The gloss will look like there's Elmer's glue underneath it.

BTW, Sykes Creek is gone. Nothing coming out of there anymore :-(

No pee-peeing match here. Just trying to set the record straight.
Think "Chinese drywall". Those builders didn't know what they were installing until too late.

I was on the 50DA at the show... the cabin smelled so badly like eggs my wife wouldn't even go half way through the cockpit.. what a terrible way to present a vessel.

Wasn't me.

Yes, related to the 50 at the show, odor was severe. After the salesman told Rocket and I this was a "boat smell", we found that the aft carpet had been pulled away as there was a water leak at some point. Between that', no service records, and a bent anchor, we walked away quickly. As for the cabinets, there were 2 issues - one is the milky white coloring in some spots, an d the other was the appearance of delaminating where the edges met the front or at a seam.

My 400 Sundancer cabinets are cracking at the curved areas in the galley and the master state room. I talked to Sea Ray and they said it is the veneer that is cracking. It can only be fixed by removing the cabinets and replacing the veneer. Just the refrigerator section was estimated at over $1,000.
