500/520 DB official thread

I just ran back to my home port this morning. Couldn’t have been smoother. Not a ripple.

I installed my new Infinity Woven Vinyl rugs today in the cockpit and on the bridge. It is pouring rain (again) so I didn’t get any good pics with the canvas off but it looks great. Shout out to Dave from The Canvas Medic (Quint4). He did a great job with a fair price.

Looks great. Love that yacht!

Wow looks awesome. How did you template it? Or did Quint have a kit?
I don’t see snaps in the cockpit what did you do there? Velcro

I templated it myself and send it to Dave. Took me about 6hrs to template it. I used used 6mil plastic. Dave has a good set of directions written up he sent me on best way to do it. Here are some of what the templates look like.

Looks good. I don't know if i want to put anything down yet. I do like the look of no carpet but when it rains the foot prints show up. We'll see. BTW it looks as if your dinghy tiedowns worked out.

I agree that the bare fiberglass gets too dirty for me. I had the put same color infinity flooring in the 340da last year and we really like it a lot. Cleans up really easy, dries quickly and this color stayed cool.
I only had the bow turn Buckle on for the trip home. I have to put new pad eyes in for the stern turn buckles and it has been raining so much I haven’t had a chance to install them yet.

Looks great Jeremy! Can't wait to see her in person.

So tips on docking this beast.... Wind blowing off of my pier Saturday, trying to back in, how do you get stern to port with wind from the port? I don't have a stern thruster. Luckily my dock neighbor wasn't in yet, or I woulda put bow in first. Wheel hard over to port and bow thruster to keep bow to port? I need to practice.

This is my cheat sheet diagram I use to wrap my head around walking the boat sideways. So in your scenario to walk the boat to port you would put rudders about halfway to stbd , port engine in reverse, stbd engine in forward and bow thruster to port. It isn’t a perfect science as there is a lot of feel to see how your boat responds but I have been using this method and it works good for me.

Thanks Jeremy. Mike

I missed the question about snaps or Velcro. I put snaps in but the pics of the cockpit where before input the snaps in. Dave has some good ideas to delete a couple of seams up on the bridge and it made install easier with less snaps and looks better too.

Got it Jeremy,
spikedaddy, you should center your wheel and just use the motors to steer. I never touch the wheel while backing into the slip. If needed back into the wind until your near the furthest piling then pop the stbd motor in forward to turn the boat and port in reverse and she’ll spin if you have a bow thruster use it to aid in the spin.
I stand facing aft so I don’t get confused as to what part of the boat I want to move in what direction

Thats what I used to do in my 320. Didn't work on Saturday. Wind pushed me to starboard away from my pier. I wasn't going into the wind, the wind was from the port side pushing me to starboard. M

Am I the only one that thinks this diagram is wrong? Following these diagrams will make the boat spin, not walk sideways......... Engines should be opposite of what is shown and as Joe said, Rudder straight......

The opposite of this.
He’s going with the wind, he needed to pass his slip and then back up into the wind close to the piling on the right then spin to starboard
You can see how the wind pushed him past the point he need to be backing into the wind has more control

Ps he should have been on that thruster much earlier and longer it’s there to help

Mike,
I will give you another option you can try that is different from Joe's. If the wind is on your stern, pivot the boat at the slip before yours and get the vessel parallel with your slip. Be patient and allow the wind to push the vessel in front of your slip. Then back straight in. If the wind is on your bow, pass your slip and pivot, then again back in once you are in front of your slip. We use head sets so my wife tells me when I'm clear of the pole if its on my starboard side and I can't see it. If it's a very strong wind, I start inching backing up as space allows so once I'm aligned with my slip, I'm quickly getting in...... another option you may want to practice.... More than one way to do it.....

I don't remember if I was Dave's first or second customer for my 401. Scott may have beaten me - Dave did a GREAT job! It still looks great in the slip down from me with the new owner...
