500/520 DB official thread

Checking the voltage will give you a definite answer. Like you said seems like a coincidence that they both die at the same time. The control box for the blowers is in the DC breaker panel in the lazzarette to the right of the entrance to the engine room. I changed mine out to the squirrel cage blowers and they are so much quieter it is much better when they are in. They are so quite I forget to turn them off after a few hours after everything is shut down. I leave them running for a few hours after a cruise to help get some of the heat out of the engine room.

Well I have 13 volts at both blowers so ironically they failed at almost the same time. Do you or Tom have the model number you purchased as replacement?

Jabsco P/N 35770 continuous duty blowers.
You will have to install 15 amp circuit breakers to support them. All the wiring is OK. I haven't had any issues with the blower control module using these units.

While shopping for the new blowers I found several descriptions for the 35440-0000 that stated the unit is not rated for continuous duty. Did you find otherwise?

Tom:
Do you find that the 35770 is quieter than the OEM Blowers? My Starboard Blower is mounted very near the Engine Air Filter. Almost seems counter productive to mount that blower so near the air intake of the motor.?.
Significantly quieter. I really don't use the blowers when the engines are running; only use them after back in the slip or when I'm working in there.

Do you run them while on the hook with the Generator running?

Thanks

They are much quieter than the originals. I run them after a ride to help get heat out of the engine room, I run them when the genny is running and it is warm to hot out to help lower engine room temps and if I am working down there and it is hot or if there are odors from what I am doing.

I don't; actually never really thought about it. Thoughts?

I come from Gas engines so I am gun shy on running the blowers. Maybe I need to research to see if there is a benefit...

It's very common to have this thought process when transitioning from gas to diesel boats. But, there's a difference. Just take a look at the location of the blowers and you'll see that how they're setup on diesel powered vessels supports the function of mostly cooling the ER and not so much for removing diesel vapors.

As others mentioned, most common use is to run the blowers for 45-60min after a trip to cool the temp in ER.

From my owners manual:

Open up the access panels on the bridge on the starboard side and check for a leak visually or feeling around with your hand while unit is running. If there is a leak in any of the hoses inside that area, I believe water could make its way between the bridge floor and the cockpit ceiling where the speaker and lights are located. I know I’ve had water drip out of one of the cockpit lights after I stripped the bridge canvas and cushions and wrapped the console in preparation for a tropical storm. I assume some rain water made its way in the opening in the seat in front of the console and made its way around to the starboard gunnel (wire chase way).
Took off the drain hose today and determined is was only a foot long. Used my new Borescope and found the original drain hose tuck under everything in that chase and hooked it back up. All is good. Not sure what someone was trying to do there but it definitely wasn’t right. Thanks everyone.

On the port side behind the seat back at the galley table.

Damn. I couldn't find it. I'll look again this weekend. I even turned the others off to try to find it by sound. M
