500/520 DB official thread

My Sea Star Power Steering Resevoir fluid was at the full line and zero PSI showing on the gauge. I added 30PSI of Air into the reservoir tank which not surprisingly reduced the fluid level almost down to the low fill mark.

Anxious to see how differently the steering will perform.

I have had the boat for over a year and assume there has not been any air in the system at least since then.

I added air pressure to my SeaStar reservoir. The gauge showed zero psi but the instruction state 25-35psi. The fluid (before adding air pressure) was showing the Maximum fluid level in the reservoir until I added 25psi of air. The fluid dropped down to low mark which seemed ok.
We went for a ride last week and the steering operated as normal. Didn't check the engine room until today but when I did I found a fair amount of steering fluid in the bilge... ughhh!

Pressure gauge is down to 10psi and fluid level is below the Minimum fluid level mark. I believe the fluid leaked out back at the ram in the back of the boat. Not exactly sure, have to go back tomorrow and try to figure out where it leaked and why.

Any experience? Maybe the PSI was too high and needs to be checked when the engine is running.?. Hopefully a fitting was loose back at the Ram.

Always something...

I talked to a marina in Michigan today about a Walker Bay LTE 11. They said it should fit on the chocks on the swim platform on our 52. Anyone here disagree with this? I will of course put a tape measure on all of this but everything is tucked away at the moment.

I had no pressure in mine either when I got the boat. Luckily I didn’t get the leak. Hopefully you can go through the fittings and get it dry. I didn’t notice much performance difference with air or without so it must be for something else.

I have a Brig 360HT on our OEM chocks and it fits well.

Here is mine with a Walker bay Generation 340 on it. I love the size of the dingy. It does hang over the swim platform a bit but it hasn’t been a problem. The dingy is 11’3” x 6’.

Would you change the size either bigger or smaller if you had the choice? How do you feel a 12 would fit?

Ours is 11'6" and I think it is a great fit. I don't feel any need to go smaller for a better fit and I think larger starts to push it (tip to tip) a little. That said I know a number of folks with our 50/52 that have 12'+ RIB's.

How much room do you have between the transom and the dingy? You have the same design that my 09 has with the pushed back transom. Curious of the space to still get around.

Thanks for the picture that looks like a perfect port to starboard fit to me. Hard to judge right now for me. There is a Prestige on my a###!

Noticed the label on the back of your boat “Anniversary Edition.” What did Sea Ray add with that Edition?

I have plenty of room. The tube of the dingy come just an inch or so over the back edge of the fixed swim platform so I basically have the whole fixed platform to use. I don’t have a great pic but here is one of My daughter I took that gives you an idea of the space.

Wow, They really pack them in there. Outside storage where my boat is about $3600 plus $1200 shrink wrapping. Inside storage is almost $10,000.

We just bought a buddies Nouvarania 360dl with a 40 hp Yammy to replace our 335dl the dinghy has 22 hours on it he’s selling his 48DA so I grabbed it. It measures 11’-10” so I’m sure it will hang over the sides a tad. We dont have the ext platform so we lose the trunk.

I had a pretty good leak in my ram seals summer of '18. Was able to get a rebuild kit and it worked - so far...

They put every option available on the boat I believe right down to expensive art work from island paint for 2500.00 in the hallway. The transom decal is actually my design. My original 52 sticker was faded and needed replaced. There is a plaque on the helm that says 50 anniversary edition so I thought I’d jazz it up a little by adding it back there when I replaced the 52. I bought the cummins logo from seaboard marine. Should add 10 grand to the resale right?

6800 for heated in Seneca Illinois. No winterization. This is my 1st time even having to pull for the winter so I’ll see how it goes.

GT carry’s on the read swim platform a
Highfield Model Ocean Master 390 which is 12’10” not including the 40HP Honda on the a$$ end weighing just under 600lbs. Boat handles fine as she’s been to KW & back to the Chesapeake Bay the last three winters. Overall length with the engine in the down position is 14’4”

I had my wife turn the wheel back and forth today while I watched the ram, and fittings. No fluid pushed out. May be too low on fluid now to leak.

Anyone know the best way to find the leak besides filling the system with fresh steering fluid, adding air, and turning the wheel back and forth to try to find the leak?

Appreciate any help.

That's what I had my wife do. She turned the wheel while I got behind the generator (a fun task) and looked for (and saw) my leak. As I recall, you can get to your ram much easier on the 500/52 model.
