680 Sun Sport

As the old saying goes….
One door closes and another one opens.

My broker was able to locate and inquire about the status of what we believe was the last 680 built.

Survey was a couple of weeks ago and went well.

She became ours today.

Congratulations!! Good things come to those who wait! I’ve seen that boat before in Charlevoix, and that picture you sent was taken at Bay Harbor. Did you buy her up there? Details please!

Congrats!! Good for you!
If you ever in the upper Chesapeake invite me aboard for a few beers, i will let you use my 250 as a dinghy for a day. :p

Yes, I did buy her there or close by I guess.

She’s in dry storage at Catawba Island until April.

December 3rd was an unseasonably warm weather day and we were able to squeeze in the sea trial.

The plan is that she will remain there until April.

I plan to put together an elaborate tour of the Great Lakes ending up in Chicago at the end of summer then blaze a trail on home from there. However that is somewhat tentative and will likely get hacked down to a few stops on the way round the peninsula.

All suggested stops along the way will be appreciated.

Well, going from a 270 SLX to a 680 SS is one way to move up! Congrats, that is a beautiful yacht. Look forward to pictures so we can all drool...

More pictures you say.?.?
Here’s all I have for now.

I’ll add you to my east coast list in case I ever get up that way.

Wow, Congrats! Keep us posted of your trip, and if you decide to come across Michigan on the way to Chicago, look up Door County Wisconsin.

Well Played Sir, Well Played. Congrats man I can only imagine how excited you are and that thing looks spotless! If you get around the Charlevoix area while your rounding Michigan the beers are on me. Merry Christmas

Thank you all for the generous compliments and invitations.

I will definitely be going back over this thread when the journey starts and I will post our progress.

Maybe I can catch some of you on the way.

@Tucker K5 What a beauty! My "little" 390 is being stored at Mirror Image down there until spring then I'll be bringing it up to Lake St Clair. There are plenty of awesome places to see around the mitten. I'm thinking your size might limit some marina availability
I plan to either buy a tender or throw the Waverunner on the back so I should be able to get in anywhere.

Tucker what ever happened? Did you get this baby home?

It’s in dry storage at Catawba Island.
As soon as they put it in the water (some time in April) it is getting new aftercoolers (Cat re-designed them so the ones on it are no longer serviceable) and then start home with her.

The missus comments weekly on her excitement and anticipation of having daily access to her.

I’m trying to get dates on the schedule now but the unknown as far as the spring weather goes has folks unwilling to commit to any date even if it is end of April.

I was talking to the captain I’ve hired and crossing crossing over to the west coast is part of the plan. He says we’ll be less likely to have high winds coming down that side in springtime.

Good for you... Look forward to hearing about that adventure getting her home.

Hey Tucker-

Exciting times ahead for you! One thing I wanted to mention is many of us with boats stored indoors in the winter use this time to do engine service and maintenance. You may want to check with your storage yard, and CAT to see if they can get a head start in this project. If that’s possible, you could hit the water running in April.
