I was out the other day and noticed that the tabs were not helping. Once I got into the marina I investigated and noticed that when I used the tabs they didn't move, but I could hear the motor. I also noticed some ATF in the water. I checked the reservoir and it was empty. I had the boat put onto a rack and added some ATF. I again used the tabs to see if I could isolate the leak and a geyser of ATF shot out of the top of the starboard actuator. I also noticed that turning the actuator either clock-wise or counter clock-wise that it moved very easily in either direction without getting snug. My question is what do I need to replace? It is a Bennett system... I'm thinking maybe an upper hinge and an O-ring?

Thanks for the help!

You posted in the right place Tabman the CSR bennett guy I have seen him help doezens of people with their tab issues... He's great to deal with

Moab,

It does sound like the upper hinge is damaged if it does not tighten up when you turn the cylinder body clockwise. We can send you a replacement upper hinge (it comes with a new O-ring too) at no charge. To make sure that we send you the correct upper hinge I need to know if there is about 1" of piston shaft still exposed when the Trim Tabs are fully retracted or if there is less than 1" when retracted.

Let me know and send me your address in a private message and I will be delighted to send you the parts along with instructions on how to replace the upper hinge.

Wow, you sure weren't kidding. I wish there were more people like Tabman for every type of part and service we need to perform on our boats!

Tom,

I really appreciate that!
I will go check tomorrow to verify the size and get back with you.

Thank you again!

You should have an inbox message with the info.

Thank you so much and I hope you have a great Christmas and New Year!

There really is no better company than Bennett. Their customer service is what dreams are made of.

what.....you don't like the service at Dom's Marina?

Bennett rocks!!!

I finally got a chance to install the upper hinge today. It wasn't too hard aside from removing the existing adhesive. Holy crap that is some *tough stuff* to remove and clean off! I used some 4200 to put it back on, tested, and it seemed to work without any leaks! I'll toss it in the water next weekend(sorry northern guys!) after the 4200 cures. I also got a chance to replace the other O-ring which was a 5min job.

Thank you Tom and Bennett!
