I've got the drop down 10.4" KEC TV next to the galley in my cabin. I'm going to go ahead and replace it with a 19" tv, most likely mounted on the head wall. I've given thought to mounting it above the aft cabin entrance....not sure if I like it there though.

What's a good tv to hardwire it in as a 12V? I know Best Buy has an Insignia as well as some Samsung, whereas Walmart has Vizio. This TV will be the first flat panel TV I've bought so advice would be much appriciated.

Then I also need a good sturdy mount. What's the best one out there?

When it comes to the cables from the DVD player and the coax I plan on just running them under the shelves and around the bow to the head.....or just behind the galley.

I'd like to get this project all wrapped up next week. With that being said I will soon have the 10.4" KEC drop down TV up for sale....

I know Four Sons, Hampton, and probably others have added TVs but my search didn't bring up much.

Apparantly I just used the wrong words....just found them all!

I put a 19" polaroid with DVD in my cabin. I cut the "wall wart" off and wired it direct to 12v.

I have a 22" Dynex w/DVD Player(Best Buy) in the Salon and a 19" Dynex in the V-Berth
Both are mounted on stationary mounts

Sanus Brand.

Have been happy with both of them and the price was right.

Also one of the things I look for was the fact that all of the connections, cable, component and audio were side plug-ins vs rear plug-ins so that I could keep the tv's as close to the bulkheads as possible.
I will add a picture as soon as PhotoBucket is up and running again.

Are you planning another trip up to Hammond yet this season?

That still undecided. The Mrs. has thrown next weekend out there so that is a possibility.

Just went to Walmart to look at Visios and they don't have an external transformer...neither does the 22" Insignia at Best Buy. The 19" however does have an external transformer so I can cut it off and direct wire it to 12V...and it does have side plug ins. You can guess which one I'm purchasing!

Currently our drop down KEC TV has an FM Modulator that plays through the boats radio....not sure if we will have to live with the TV speakers or not. I should have turned it up in the store.

The 19" LED Haier has a fixed audio out so that you can connect it easily to your stereo Aux In (or to an FM modulator). The output works with any input, digital or analog. It's also 12v DC input (though I still use the supplied transformer and 110v, as I don't think the boat's 12v is stable enough to run electronics that weren't designed for the 11v-14v swings and surges - I'd like to find a decent and reasonably priced 12v regulator for it someday). Oh, and available in white too if that trips your trigger. Good brightness, good off-angle performance (except from below - where all LCD's tend to suck). I've been very happy with mine. And it's less than $190 from Wal-Mart.

I have a SEAWATCH by Wineguard antenna on the radar arch with a 12v signal booster in the boat. Reception on the water is usually lousy. We use the antenna feed from the dock which gets us about 15 channels or watch DVDs.

Its time to get this project rolling, but I can't find a part I'm looking for. Where should I look for a cable protector? Pretty much on an office desk, that plastic part that protects the wires as they come through the desktop...

I grabbed mine at OfficeMax on clearance one day.

Using a Seawatch also.
I get about 40 stations, since we have 'line of sight' to Chicago.
Of course about 20 of them either in Spanish or weather/radar stations.

I also ran a 3.5mm jack and wire from headphone out on tv to the stereo which has a 3.5 and a USB on the front of it.

Works great that way.

Great thanks. Making some good progress..I was able to use my existing TV antenna thats hidden in the foredeck. I was unsure if I would be able to reroute the wiring from that, since the existing TV is on the port side and the new is going on the starboard side, but I got it done :).

Anyone need a KEC flip down TV?

Got it all installed today. Do not like the mount I purchased....

Spent about two hours total between routing the coax from my internal antenna to the TV, running a line from the DVD player, and then power to the TV. Spent the next hour screwing with the mount. It was next to impossible to get those two tiny screws in the bottom to hold it up.

Whats a better mount? I'm off to Radioshack and Walmart tomorrow to compare...

Thanks. That appears to be about an inch space between the back of the tv and the wall, is that correct?

here is mine prior to the great cable fishing expedition. The cables are now nicely zip-tied and the coax has been run down the starboard side behind the bathroom and back to the engine compartment where it gets plugged in at the shore power.. Pain in the Biden but worth the work.
