Has anyone added solar panels or a portable wind generator to their Searay? We anchor out alot and running our gen is an option but we are always looking for options while on the hook.
The 1000 Island Parks on the St. Lawrence River are beginning to implement their no generator rule later this year (on the dock or a mooring can). Only three islands will have gen usage.
The on the dash solar panels are pretty useless for recharging house bank batteries especially when your fridge is running and drawing 8 amps. There are panels available that produce 120-200 watts, 8-14 amps and close to a large case with built in regulators.
There are new technology wind generators that can be portable and produce 4-6 amps with only 7 mph wind and 28 amps at its peak of 400 volts anytime of day. Again the new ones have built in regulators and slow to a very slow spin when batteries are charged.
Your thoughts?????
