Another tragic result without life jacket

Wow, that sucks. So sorry for the family. It sounds like he couldn't just get them with the houseboat. He had to stop it and get them with a small boat? Hard to say without knowing all the details, but I wonder why.

I wonder why a toddler would be allowed to walk around without a PFD on.

Things like this are soooo sad, but people always have the "it won't happen to me" syndrome.

I boat at Powell a lot. People treat houseboats differently. They are so big and enclosed, so they are often treated more like a hotel room than a boat. And even with air conditioning, they can be very warm in the daytime. I believe both of these factors lead folks to be more relaxed about life vests than they should. Life vests have a critical purpose, and should be worn without fail by small children. Sincere condolences to the family.

Very sad but something doesn't add up based on the news report. Babies don't float on dead bodies. But then every news report I ever read about something I had first hand knowledge of was mostly wrong.

Jim T,

I couldn't agree more about journalism. In college I worked as an intern at an ad agency. The principal was formerly in journalism. When I asked why she left the profession, she said she got tired of doing all the investigative work for stories, then seeing them being reported very incorrectly that evening on TV.

I known and understood bias in the media for decades. However, as I got involved in local politics a number of years ago, I have been amazed at how many "facts" are just flat incorrect.
