I’m just gonna put it out there, for those of us that have a “season”, meaning we can’t boat year round, I get a serious situation of mourning going on when summer and boat season is over….anyone else have that?

Yes. We wait all off-season long for the summer and it seems to fly by so fast!

We learned to enjoy what each season offers. Fall color tours, skiing, fires in the fireplace in the winter and gardening in the spring add variety and interest. So we looked forward to getting the boat out in the spring. putting it away in the fall and moving on to other things.

My wife agrees with you sb, she’s ready to put the boat to sleep and move on to other things

Me, I do like seasons, it’s winter I can’t stand!
We used to hate winter when we lived in Chicago where weather creates all kinds of hassles for getting around. Michigan, on the other hand, offers great winter sports. We could live any where, but chose to build a nice retirement home in West Michigan.

There was a time. But retirement changed that. We love the boat obviously, but we also like the fall and I enjoy getting out in the woods. After hunting season we head south for a few months.
After looping, then going back to Florida and the Bahamas on the boat, we rented a condo down there for the last 2 winters for a few months. That is really nice and we welcome the warm weather now that we are older, but we decided we are happier when we are are the move, feel better when we are busy and feel more healthy (we actually both lost a few pounds while cruising Lake Superior this summer) This past spring we bought a trailer and now we are going to be cruising by boat up north in the summer and “cruising” by land down south in the winter, checking out interesting places where there isn’t necessarily water.

So now when it’s out with the boat

We’re in with the trailer.

Excited and looking forward to it.

My, for retirement, I like your strategy… I feel like i want Florida, and Michigan in June,July, August…..the rest in warm shit!! Lol

We too are in the fortunate group that retired while young. I still dislike putting the boat away for the Pa winter, but then we head to our Florida house for a few weeks each month which is also fun, just in a different way. We try to rent a boat a few times during the winters and go out on the gulf, but honestly I am more of an inland boater for now. I think it is just familiarity.

I always feel like I didn't get enough boat time when pulling the boat for the "season". But, the off-season provides time to tackle all the interior home projects that get blown off during boating season. We always plan a couple road trips to the Oregon and Washington coast in the fall before the snow starts flying.

You know I personally like when the boat goes away for 5 months…it’s a rest… we put a lot of effort into summer boat time from the driving to the boat, entertaining, traveling and spending money.
This winter we are downsizing the house….which is a big deal and I bought a golf cart that needs tuning…for next summer …paint, lift kit, tires, seats….all in.

Does anyone consider moving the boat south and using it ( NC to Fla) a few weeks every month over the winter.
For us the warm weather is over too quickly and the cold takes over too soon. Too many cruises we did not get to, too many boat projects not done. We do enjoy skiing and the fire place though.

Yes, especially seeing as we didn’t get much boat use this Summer because of mechanical issues and I got sick for a few weeks.

However, I look forward to the Fall and deer opener - then the Winter to do a little ice fishing/drinking with friends, and maybe ride a snowmobile or two. Spring just sux because there’s no access to the boat so I get anxious and think of the things I could be doing for Summer prep.

By the end of February and into March, we’re done with Winter tho. Then the pocketbook gets itchy and wants to buy stuff for the boat. I made myself a promise for 2022 because, after this last years boat expenses, I’m not dropping a dime next year other than fuel.

This is upgrade season! Turn that frown upside down.

I wish i had access to my boat over winter also, be nice to have it completely ready when spring rolls around.

This season felt abnormally short of boat use. Weather didn't cooperate (rain, high winds), and my kids had a lot of weekend sports stuff.
