We're in Miami, planning/wanting to head South down Biscayne Bay and out into Hawks tomorrow and by Friday North up the Gulf side towards Sarasota (likely via Moser Channel). I'd love to compare weather thoughts (I'm looking at various sources to draw conclusions on what we're looking at) with anyone on a similar itinerary and/or get some updates from anyone out there already in Hawks Channel, etc. Feel free to post back or just PM me. Thanks!

Regards,
Jason

We've got a boat and property in the Panhandle so we watch the weather closely. I think the storm is small enough and the Gulf water is cool enough at this point in the summer that Debby's strength isn't going to increase much if any. Miami and the Keys are out of the tropical storm force wind predictions, but this storm is moving slow enough that you guys will see some surge in the form of higher than normal tides and much higher than normal seas. We normally have 2-3 ft swells this time if year and seas are forecast to be 10-14 ft until Tues as the storm approaches. The models call for the storm to turn west toward Texas so the south Fla conditions should improve pretty quickly after that turn occurs.

Now, I"m not the weather channel and don't profess to be a meterologist, but I have watch storms in the Gulf closely for about 25 years now........so the above + $1 will buy you a cup of coffee.

Think I would stay put for awhile until she's moved on...we're in SRQ live inland about 5 miles from the gulf on a lake and even it's white capping today:) Our boat is firmly tied up in the yacht club basin and that's where she's stopping until Debby's gone...long gone:) Tides are really high today too. Our son lives on the water further along the coast and it's pretty rough, in fact their road is flooded and folk are kayaking down the street!

We're not scheduled to head North (from Key West) until Friday so hopefully by then things will have settled down, if not we'll hang out in Key West. In the meantime we're going to head down the keys from Miami, tomorrow they are calling for 3-4s in Hawks Channel (not ideal but within our comfort limits, we try and avoid 5's and 6's - although when they say 3-4s that usually means there will be some 5's here and there). Anyway, thanks for the report, sounds like the gulf side is getting hammered!

Hopefully by Friday things should have cleared up. Take care going there, it can cut up rough quick, like you say 3-4's can soon turn out much bigger we had 17 footers in the Gulf today! Have a safe trip to Key West. Where are you staying in Sarasota...Marina Jacks, LBK? If you're at MJ's great place you can walk to for breakfast or lunch a little north of the Ritz Carlton on the left is the Mango Cafe....great food and no I don't own it or know who does:)
