Mines pretty raggedy and I'm not spending 500 dollars on a new one. I'm thinking or using the vinyl/plastic rattle can paint that I used to redo my bumpers.

Or an Industrial strength degreaser should get them nice and bright and yellow again...

Try cleaning them with Acetone and then wash with lots of soap and water.

I agree with both of these....if the cord is that raggedy then paint won't adhere to it. You would need to clean the cord first anyway so see how it looks before trying to paint it.

I'm not going that way. Miami show should have the 30amp ones on sale...7 years old and they have granny skin..............

The cords sometimes get that black looking stickiness on them. That stuff can get on other stuff. I used acetone to clean mine this summer and they look like new, but the main thing is they ain't dirty and sticky anymore. Marinco actually recommends acetone for cleaning them. Next time I clean them I think I'll give them a coat of wax too.

Yea, that sticky crap gets on the boat and it takes 3M cleaner wax to remove it, drives me nuts. I've got my cords at home for the winter, going to do the acetone and follow up with something, don't know what that something is yet..........any suggestions, maybe wax might work.

Please don't use acetone. It degrades the plastic shell and will get black and soft again quickly. Last winter I took both my dirty 30 amp cords, coiled them up and put them in a tote full of warm water, degreaser and a little bleach. Let the sit 6-8 hours and they came out like new with no scrubbing, etc. Let them dry and put a coat of carnuba wax and they will look good all season.

PS. Tie the cords up so the plugs don't sit in the solution.

I can tell you this works great! Another way to clean if you want a quick fix is to use the Works! However, if you use the above method, you won't have to hardly do any wiping.

I wonder if Marinco knows this. I'm willing to try another method but I'll miss the buzz from the acetone.
