I have a inexpensive Ryobi orbital buffer I purchased at Home Depot for less than $30 that so far has worked pretty well. I am curious as to what I get for another $100+ with a Porter Cable 7424 that makes it that much better than the one I have?

Just off hand:

porter cable:

better quality
stronger/quality motor
not plastic
variable speed
higher speed
ergonomics
6" pad vs 12"

nothing wrong with Ryobi, but......Porter Cable is just a better unit

Wet Paint

Please provide detail on what order and how you use these four products.........
Your finish looks great!

Thanks!

I did some shopping when my old polisher died. Almost all the detailers are using Makita polishers here.
I read the reviews online they rate at the top. I bought one and 3 years later I couldn't be happier with it.
All the information is online for the (electronic) 9227c model that I have.
On a side note; I find that a little cart makes my polishing and waxing life way easier.
I put my polishes, waxes, rags, polisher and beer in it and roll it around with me.
I hate having the products out of reach. It slows the job down too much.

I have the Shurhold dual action polisher and it is very nice compared to using the one I bought at the auto parts store. Very light & compact so I can get into tight spaces. +1 on the Starbright polish!

Boats looks great guys, you can't do a better job......But in fairness to mi Jaun, the boat was not done yet in pictures with buffer and products.......I was just doing for pictures.....

Great info. Anyone have experience with Maquires marine polish? That's the next question

I believe it depends on how bad is the condition of the Gel coat when choosing between the "Random orbital" of a Higher speed Polisher.
It maybe true that you can't do damage with the Random orbital but so what, if it doesn't go deep enough.
If its real bad and you first time? I would recommend having some one who has done it before either do it for you or show you how not to do damage with a polisher.
Then buy the "random Orbital" which would be fine as long as you don't wait to long.

If you really want an orbital and you'll be using it for your boat and cars, then you can't go wrong with a Flex 3401. I have one which I moved up to from a PC 7424. The Flex is a little more money, but IMO is a better machine. The Flew 3401 is safe enough that a beginner cab use it on their car without worrying about doing damage to the finish. It will also work on the boat if the finish on it is in good shape.
But if you're buying a machine for use exclusively on your boat, then go for a rotary. The rotary will do a much better job. I have a Makita and love it. It would be pretty hard to hurt the Gelcoat on a boat with a Rotary. There is enough information and videos on the internet that can help to get you started. I wouldn't use a rotary on a car though unless you are experienced.

Maguiars is my preference. They make a good product.
I've only ever used the automotive polishes and waxes on the boats until last year when I took the pictures. I tried the marine 'pure wax' and it turned out nice. I can't say it's any better than the automotive stuff though. I'm going to try the marine polish and wax this upcoming season for fun (in March I'll do it).
I'll take some different pictures... we're gettin' sick of these ones!!

I've been using #45 for few years and was pretty happy with the results.

I was able to use Meguiars Flagship WAX with a Rotary buffer and had great results. For the tough spots, I used the Meguiars Flagship Cleaner/WAX. I did not need to compound at all.
