Monday night in the marina, our boat was broken into. They ripped our new flatscreen off the wall, put cigarettes out on the kitchen counter, stole a BUNCH of stuff including the DVD player, TV remote, DVDs, CDs, batteries, my dog's metal cage!, my husband's boat shoes and some clothes, his leatherman, his drill, some other tools, our cooler, and ALL the alcohol (About 5 bottles of vodka, 1 bottle of Crown, 2 bottles of Tequila, a bottle of Jaeger, and all the sodas!!!) LOL. They even stole some of our electronics up by the helm. Marine Max did overnight the part to us though, for $550.

They broke a light, and some lanai screen panels near the steps going down into the cabin. They screw drivered the lock, and Im not even sure if it works anymore.

The craziest part, and worst part for me was the fact that they took the Sea Ray bag with all the manuals, our notes, registration, fishing licenses, etc etc. Grrrrrrr.

A neighboring deck boat lost their radio, GPS and depth finder.

Marina wont accept any responsibility and there's no cameras at the docks.

Very disappointing but it can only point towards the failing economy. Be careful out there. :smt009

is there someway of rigging a 12 bore inside the cabin aimed at the door but with a secret disarm just for you?

I am so sorry to hear this. Fear of having someone break into our boat is something that is ALWAYS on my mind.

I wish you the best in the aftermath.

I feel for you. What a violation! I don't know what the answer is though. Historically, we have operated under the theory that locks are useless against professional thieves, and at best an annoyance to petty criminals. Thus, we never lock anything. Given the value of outdrives, props, electronics, etc., we may be re-evaluating that position.

I wonder if there is a motion detector that will work inside a cabin and trigger a camera?

Sorry to hear about it, have you checked with Sea Ray about getting the owners package replaced.

No good. Sorry to hear about that. Best of luck getting back in order and feeling peace aboard your boat again.

Britt,
Sorry to hear about that. Nobody wants to have that happen to anyone they know. I hope your insurance covers you.

I thought of putting security cams in my boat. I wonder what the options would be. Probably a hidden hard drive running 24 hrs with hidden cameras, hooked to motion detectors and a cell phone. I can be at the boat in 5 minutes with Smith and Wesson. I know that if you shoot a trespasser in your home in MA, they can sue you and put you in jail, but in a boat on the harbor? Maritime law prevails?

Sorrey to hear about the violation of your privacy. Most important is to get youselves "ok with it" and enjoy your boat again. ric

www.boatalarms.us Tell Dwayne that Mike sent you. I have never been happier with the cellular system that is in our 460 - remote arm, calls you, texts, calls Police, etc. There's many options as to components. Was broken into twice before getting this and it's been peaceful since.

In Missouri you can shoot to kill if the suspects come aboard while you are using the vessel as your dwelling or home even if it is overnight. If I caught someone on my boat when I arrived to it I would rather have a baseball bat or a hammer.

I HAVE A MASTIFF AND HIS GIRL NEVER A BREAKIN:thumbsup:

It is upsetting. Do you have any idea who did this? It sounds like kids. Has anyone else had an event at the marina? Make sure you file a police report.

Sorry to hear about your break in. On the bright side, the thieves left you some very nice DNA samples on those cigarette butts. I hope you had the police come out. Hopefully they dusted for prints and saved the butts.

How is the insurance company dealing with the situation? Let us know who your carrier is and how they perform.

Good luck.
Michael

yep, ever see those cameras that hunters use?

only downside, you would have to hide the camera or they will take...

I would install a basic alarm system similar to the one in my home or car. A door contact would protect the cabin area. A horn and flashing strobe would be nice. Have it run on 12V in order that the system will function should someone pull the AC. Stickers to indicate it is equiped with an alarm system would also help; I bet the thieves did a day time run in order to check out which boats to hit at night.

There was an issue at one of the local marinas around here a few years back. A buddy of mine who worked for the police dept. at the time said every boat at the marina was hit except those the thieves thought were alarmed. One guy had installed a simple red LED flashing light attached to a AA battery. They never touched his boat.

:smt009 Sorry to hear. wifi camara and a old lap top with external-hard drive recoard 24-7 wifi cam on boat hidden and laptop at home watching...I keep as little on the boat and bring what I need for just that day-night...200lbs Mastiff on board is also a help:smt013
