Been a while since we had a boat meal discussion. Getting close to heading to the boat, starting to plan a bit. Well in reality bored with working, spending the afternoon boat planning.

Looking for some new ideas. Given the distance, not feasible to take meals prepared at home on the plane with us. We have our favorites that we normally prepare on the boat. Still social distancing so will not be eating out like we normally do.

We grill or prepare in the galley.

Any ideas?

Do you have an insta pot yet? Makes quick and easy work out of great dishes like Asian beef short ribs, Chili ect. It is pretty compact if you get a smaller one and you can saute without the splatter mix. We generally tried not to cook on Carpe Diem but found the Insta Pot a game changer. I have made restaurant quality Beef Bolognese and Pappardelle with mine on more than one occasion.
Happy Winter boating

As far as other amazing boat cooking tools go - look at the covered baker from pampered chef. They make two sizes

you can cook really fantastic meals in it including meats, pasta, etc. We like to throw everything in it, start the Genny and flip to genset power, and head out to anchor in the cove. Takes 20-30 minutes for us to get where we’re going and by that time dinner is ready :)

Second the instant pot. Haven't used it on the boat yet, but it's awesome at home. We have a large and a small. We just upgraded our large one due to unfortunate incident where the stove was accidently turned on and it melted.

2nd the instapot. We use ours a lot on the boat, we frequently do BBQ in it. Can cook a 8-10 pound pork butt into some of the most delicious BBQ i have ever had in shortly over an hour. We also grill a lot, steaks, burgers, dogs.

Costco in Washington has pre packaged meats good for 2 people. When we go to the boat we provision for a month with meats, fresh vegetables for 2 weeks then frozen and caned for the next two weeks. We have Weber BBQ and cook on it using it as an oven for roasts. We also have a good bread maker that keeps us supplied with bread, cakes and pizza doe. What you cook at home you can cook on the boat with a bit of forward thinking. One rule we try to follow is no meat with bones as it occupies to much space. When we had the 28 footer we had two cooler. With this boat we have two refrigerators.

Mark,

We find making lasagna (or stuffed shells) and meatloafs in throwaway aluminum casserole (5x10 - $Tree 3 for a buck) is enough for two nights out of each casserole. You could make them up your first night on the boat and freeze them or refrigerate them. Add some burgers, steaks and chicken and you've got 10 days of meals...

We found a local fish market, walking distance from our home slip. We have been cooking a lot of fresh black grouper. Will probably pick up a couple of meals before we start south.

I have wanted to get a crock pot, admiral doesn’t want to store it.

We grill all the time... But Uber Eats always works well also, they bring it right to the dock...LOL

Thanks for the Instant Pot raves... just ordered one for the Admiral... be here tomorrow for Christmas!

There are a bunch of Instant Pot groups on Facebook that my wife looks at for recipe ideas. Just be forewarned that some people can get a little cult-like nuts about their instant pot.

A really good series of books with good recipes is Instant Loss by Brittanny Williams. The author does a lot of gluten-free stuff, which my wife needs too.

For 29 years I have survived by never wavering from golden rule number one for gift giving, Never buy the wife anything with a power cord attached:D
Merry Christmas!

Thanks for the Facebook idea and the link to the book. Our Instant Pot has been underutilized until now. We just ordered the book on Amazon.

Me too - learned the hard way. Unless she specifically asks for it. I got her a Roomba last year because she expressly asked for it. I made her put it in writing!

An eclectic waffle maker and George Forman grill make breakfast and dinner enjoyable when you cook inside. Instant hot chocolate mix is good for cool nights. Costco sells whip cream in pressure cans. Six last us a month. Can corn is the only vegetable in a can that is good to eat.
