Bringing the boat home

Yeah, long day.

Yesterday felt a little slow, only making it to Myrtle Beach. Got a little exciting at the end when the swing bridge was stuck closed with no opening ETA. Ended up waiting 10 mins- no big deal. Tied up, had a nice dinner and hit the rack.

Today we hauled the biscuit. Looks like 162 miles.

Day started in North Myrtle Beach. Off the dock by 7:15. Weather outside was too nasty so we stayed on the ICW all the way. Initial destination was Wrightville Beach. But we hit that before 11 am. Next was Beaufort, NC. But we blew through that in the early afternoon. The next option was Oriental, NC, where we are now. Got here comfortably by 4:30. The only rough part was coming up the Cape Fear River.

Once at Oriental I backed into the slip, tied up, washed down, and took on 136 gallons of fuel. Walked around the corner for a good meal. The best part was watching Rusty talk Southern to our server. I understood the words - sorta - but there were like 7 layers of meaning us Yanks didn’t get. My sons head about melted trying to figure out what exactly happened. The upside is that we got enormous slabs of cake and pie because of Rusty’s unfathomable Southern charm. This is the guy to take you on a trip.

So, about the boat. It’s performing great. Rides very well, handles great. And the speed - every so often Rusty shakes his head about how fast we’re going vs the fuel burned. Most of the day we sat right at 27 mph or so, engine load 74-79%. Rpms were 2600 ish. Fuel burn was between 20-22 gph, depending on tide flow. For a time we pushed a bit, running right at 2700, burning 22.8 gph, and hit 30 mph. I’m throughly pleased with this.

Tomorrow looks good for a run up the Pamlico Sound. Hoping for a brief stop at Coinjock, and to make Norfolk.

I grew up in Florida very close to where Rusty lives. I now live in South Carolina so I can speak to your poor understanding of the good Captain. The deep southern variation is not the same as the south Florida dialect. It took my wife years to understand me. You brought the wrong southern dictionary for your trip Brad:). Thanks for letting us follow along. Continue having an adventure to remember.

You made some good time!....I am in New Bern not far from you.

Funny, Rusty sounds normal to me. Now one time I was up north, had to have someone translate for me.

When I got to the mid west for school they had no idea what I was saying? I had a few patients ask me to write down what I was saying. When my daughter went north for her Masters same happened to her. JC

Heading up the Albemarle Sound right now at 28.5 mph.

Got overflown and saluted by 4 F-15 fighters on the Alligator River, just south of the swing bridge.

How far will you make it today?
Shooting for Norfolk.

We had a delay at Coinjock. The swing bridge up ahead is only opening at certain times because of maintenance. We could have waited 2 hours in the water, or 2 hours at Coinjock. Guess which won?

We had the prime rib sandwiches for lunch and they really were excellent. Sorry, no pics of that.

You guy's coming up the Chesapeake?

Not 100% sure yet. Getting reports that outside is very calm - we’ll assess in the morning.

End point for today is Hampton Roads. But we just missed the north landing swing bridge by 2 minutes so we have to burn 1/2 hour till the next opening. Next bridge is at 5 so we have to haul @$$ to make it. If we miss we’re in Norfolk.

By the way, I’m getting a ton of grief from Rusty about having shared that AIS link.

His phone keeps blowing up with all you guys telling him you’re watching our location. As soon as we stopped at Coinjock he had like 6 guys ask how the prime rib was today. Every time his phone dings says “Brad Arrington’s Social Media Service” and gives me a death stare.

I sent him a message just to mess with you guys:p I, for one, think we need more pictures.

It would be easier if I didn’t have to edit every &$@“ photo before posting so it shows right side up to the forum software.

I have always heard there is a price to pay for those that have Fame, Brains, and Good Looks... well, wait, 2 out of 3 is not bad.

Glad you'all (lol) are having a good trip.

I’m sure I missed it earlier but what power does the new boat have? Amazing speed and consumption numbers
