Bringing the boat home

So this morning when you left Hampton, I thought that the C&D Canal was a bit "ambitious". Well you guys grabbed ambitious by the neck and threw it overboard! All the way to Cape May.....and that line of storms that came through, you had to be in the driving rain for hours! My hat is off to you boys. And they way y'all put miles under the keel, I'm betting you hit home port tomorrow. Continued safe travels.

Yea, I was thinking they kicked ass also.

@techmitch A rough Google Maps distance measurement puts it at roughly 270 miles. That's a long freaking day! And they got about another 200 tomorrow, with almost 150 miles being outside.

I'm getting ready to make the reverse trip from Barnegat Bay to Cape May on Tuesday. I was looking for a Captain to assist with process. I sent Rusty an message on CSR last week but hadn't heard back from him yet. So I found a good fellow up that way to help me bring her down. I assume you guys are going to be running outside from this point forward? What is the process to take so that your boat shows up on AIS? Thanks, Safe Travels.

If I was to bet, I think that Backcove is nice and dry at the helm. Those boats are built for Maine weather.

Thanks for keeping us posted

Man, I’m hoping. We’re real soggy right now. Weather looks not great tomorrow. High winds. If it’s out of the west we could run up close inshore. Have to see. Might stay in liberty landing.

Yes, dry and warm. Got a little foggy on the windows though. Might have to get a window defogger.

Here’s the official tally. 278 miles.

Yes, outside. No more ICW.

The app is called OnCourse. It reports your position via internet and you can see other boats. But you won’t be seen by others using only radio based AIS.

You get the app and register. You’ll need your MMSI. You might need to make a free account at Marinetraffic.com. The app interface is a little wonky on my phone but it works. Find the setting to make the font bigger because the default is tiny.

Thanks for the Info. I'm assuming I can find my MMSI somewhere on my chart plotter? Thanks again.
