cat 3116

ok time to change the primary fuel filters i have a 19i97 40 sedan with 3116 cats anyone know the best fuel filters for that engine? i have the engine serials to reference. i called cat and they refered me to somewhat local dealers who werent very helpful.

Racors on the primary (#2040PMOR) and only use Caterpillar filters (1-R-0750) on the secondary. THeir high efficiency filters are cheaper and better then aftermarket ones.

Cat uses a 2 micron secondary. If you decide to use some other brand on the engine mounted filter, you have to find out what particle size it will trap. If it is larger then 2 micron, you will have to reduce your Racor to a 2 micron particle size, which negates the secondary filter all together. The fuel system on these engines needs a final filter size of 2 microns.

What's the difference between the 1R0750, and the 0751? They look identical to me. I take the 0751's but I can't figure out what the difference is.

Just the thread size in the filter and mounting nipple..........just be sure you are using a filter marked "high efficiency". If the 0751 does not, then ask the counter guy at the Cat store to cross it to the high efficiency replacement no.

I order mine from the local truck service center using the Cat number Frank has posted above. Usually in the next day. Hoover truck in Flanders, NJ is my source and they will ship if you can not find local.

This is from CATs site....

I use the 1R-0751 on my 3126-TA motors. The 0750, according to the chart fits the 3208 and 3300 motors. You can read the brouchere here.....

Mike, if I gave you any 750 filters,just swap them at cat.

I think you gave me 0751's, I remember thinking to myself when I looked at them that they were the same. I'll check though.
