He said you were right on, the ball valve failed, and that's what caused the problem after the fuel filter changes. But, not sure of exactly what went down? Didn't stay on top of the story, this mechanic then got a detached retina, things then got more cloudy, after surgery and ordering rebuilt injectors (why order injectors?), and then finding some bad ones, and this and that, he finally got it all working. The boat ran fine on its 5 mile run to storage. Havent got the bill to see what exactly what was done and haven't talked to him on what he exactly did. Business has been busy, but have to go up there and pay him and talk this out. Questions:
1. One mechanic accused the other of using ether to get the engine started. Can one still smell the ether let's say 2-3 days, maybe a week, after using it?
2. What are the problems using ether as a starter?
What happened originally was that the engine started fine after complete fuel filter change, and when i brought it to power, it stalled out. went back and called it quits that night.
Next morning, we noticed with mechanic 1 that the primer pump was not closed. He primed for about 30 seconds, closed it, fiddled with the valve, and the engine started fine, ran it up to 2000 rpm at the dock, all ok, then taxied out, brought up power and stalled.
Did this again, but thought the main engine fuel filter was a problem, changed that, primed, and same stall.
Mechanic 1 who does the filters, minor mx etc, was stumped, brought it the guy who did tuned it this early summer before 1000 island trip and that's when 2 said 1 used ether to start it and then the nice dynamics started. I called you and explained exactly to m1 what you said. Take off the main filter, prime the pump with it open and you should see fuel. close the valve, prime and you should not see fuel. M1 called me and said , Ub, everything is ok, i primed it and fuel came out and when i closed it, fuel came out, so everything OK. that is when i knew i definitely I had a not ok M1.
Don't know why M2's diagnosis of a vball valve failure, coulped with a bad injector would make him change all the injectors?
Will report back to you when i talk to him...thanks for checking.
