Clothes Washer Leaks!

I'm not scared to start taking this thing apart to get to the bottom of it but before I do, thought I would ask - where do I begin with diagnosing a leak on a clothes washer? It is the stack-on apartment sized job. Woke up this morning to find a huge puddle under it on my hardwood floor! I pulled it out of the closet it barely fits in to check out the hoses and nothing is leaking. I'm thinking maybe something broke out of the bottom of the tub. Maybe it rusted through? Its not an area I can easily access without really digging into this thing. So...is it possible for the bottom to rust out of these things? Its probably 10 yrs old. Was nothing special to begin with.

Absolutely they can rust out. I've had that happen before. Start taking the sides off and see where the water is coming from.

I tore into it. It wasn't pretty. I searched the internet since my initial posting looking for info on actually getting to the inside of the washer. Why don't washer manufacturers simply put an access panel on them for inspection...duhh. So with a huge flathead, some beer, and a lot of four letter words I made my way to the inside of this thing. Found the drain tube had rubbed, and rubbed, and rubbed again over ten years on a little brace inside the machine and a little pinhole appeared. And that is my leak. I'll go to the hardware store tomorrow to see what I can rig up.

Tonka,

I love your new signature! It perfectly explains the current postings we are seeing!

Sorry you are on the blocks 'till spring!
