Couple of upgrades yesterday

Looks great! I wonder if it will get too hot for your feet though during the summer days.

I like the wall sconces on the forward bulkhead.

You've got me thinking. I would like to rewire the switching so I can control those lights independantly any way.

Hmmm...

The weight of the PlasDeck minus the cockpit carpet should not be that match at all. I would think it will be a better sound barrier then the carpet as well.

I plan on doing our cockpit at some point. We were actually at a birthday dinner for my wife last night and the guys were betting on if I would have the Plasdeck in my cockpit before the beginning or end of June. They all now me to well. I always have a project going on.

The forward lights on the bulkhead were not to difficult at all. The cost was very low compared to most marine fixtures. I also did them on the areas at the foot of the bed. I built and installed 4 in the forward state room total. I will probably add dimmers to them that are right on the light fixture it self when I find the right ones.

Great job Steve! Looks excellent I knew you would love it, it makes such a big difference. Are you going to caulk the edges? We found the caulking finished it off but was a PITA putting the masking tape down....suspect being older than you, with all that kneeling, may have had something to do with that LOL.

Steve,

Great job man, as always! Thanks for sharing. You got me thinking now as I am tired of constantly cleaning my platform too with the kids jumping on and off all the time!

Really nice!!! You've done some job on that boat so far, by the way she's huge!!!!! Looks great.keep posting please.

Wow! Looks fantastic. I'm thinking about doing the same thing. Plasdeck has a template of my 420 Sedan Bridge on file and will sell me the kit. Was wondering what your overall impression of the plasdeck product? if you would recommend others to self install and final question do you think it's a good idea to order pre-made template as opposed to doing an actual template of my boat?
Thanks and kudos on a great job!

I have been talking to people for some time now about the differences between the different companies that offer composite teak. Lets face it, pretty big investment for a mostly aesthetic product.

What impressed me the most about the PlasDeck was 3 fold. Number one is that the individual strips are plastic welded together, not just glued. Number two is the underside of the PlasDeck is the only composite teak that is smooth and not grooved. My research showed that any product that is grooved does not have the same durability and adhesive strength as a solid smooth product. The thickness of the product is measured from the thickest point on the product. Not the grooves. Most manufacturers use grooves to cut down on material cost. Number three and the probably one of the most important reasons was who I was buying the material from. I spent a great deal of time talking with manufacturers and reps on the telephone and at the Miami Boat Show. Product knowledge, installation experience and customer service are extremely important to me. Juan Carreras with Speciality Marine Products in Ft Lauderdale spent a great deal of time talking about the manufacturing and installation of the product at the boat show. He was also an installer and he worked for his competitor. He did not bad mouth them to sell his product. He simply talked about the differences between manufacturers and the manufacturing process. I am a strong believer that if you have a great product that you believe in you should never have to resort to bad mouthing your competitors to sell your product.

As far as templating compared to a pre templated pattern I would personally prefer to template myself to be sure that the PlasDeck was the exact fit that I wanted. But then again I didn't have a choice. No one had a template of my 500 DA. I am sure that they make darn sure that the templates are correct before they offer them. The templating process is not bad at all. I would suggest buying the template material from Plasdeck and take your time and do it right if you are going to do it. If you go back in my post you will see my templating pictures. It took me about 3 hours to do it by myself and double and triple check everything.

The install of the Plasdeck was much easier then I thought. My Dealer gave me great instructions and assured me that if I had an issue I could call him night or day and he would walk me through it. His directions and tips were dead on the money. Just take your time and follow my step by step instructions that I posted and you will be surprised on how easy it is to install. I also recommend that you contact my guy to get your product. You are probably looking at the $35-37 per sq foot price if you do the install yourself. At $37 it should cover the install tools and glue.

I posted his business card earlier in the thread and I don't recommend people if I wasn't really impressed by them. This guy really impressed me. I also couldn't be happier with the PlasDeck.

I hope this helps. Please feel free to pm me or e-mail me directly with any questions.

I am anxious to hear how it deals with spider crap. Even though our swim platforms get pelted with spiders and dirty bare feet. A quick Starbright non skid deck cleaner works wonders. Will talk this summer after you have a few months under your belt.
