My wife has been complaining about our head floor for a couple years. We tried various rubber mats, but they never looked right. I searched for some time to find a nice, but not overly expensive teak floor with no success. So I opted to build one.
I used 1x4 (3/4” x 3 1/2”) cumaru “Brazilian Teak” decking for the materials. Wood was purchased from Advantage Lumber in Buffalo, NY. The top deck boards are supported by (4) perpendicular supports made from ripping (2) of the 1x4’s in half. All top members are secured with (2) #8 1 1/4” stainless wood screws (purchased from Amazon) at each overlap; screws are on the bottom and are countersunk.
For my boat - 97 330EC - I used (4) 7’ 1-4’s for the top and (2) 4’ 1-4’s for the bottom supports. Everything is finished in tongue oil, that can be reapplied as needed; since we do and plan to continue using the shower.
Fairly simple to make:
Way Way cheaper than anything I found on line and fits like a glove. (Also used Cumaru on the steps when I rebuild the doghouse covering the AC as seen in the one picture.
Happy Boating!

Fairly simple to make:
- Make a template
- Cut all the top pieces a bit long.
- Screw everything together. The cumaru is VERY hard. You have to be careful with the screws or they will snap off. I was unable to use a drill/driver, and had to hand screw them (after drilling each hole).
- Use template to cut to size.
- (I routed a few channels on the underside of the supports to guarantee proper drainage, but I’m not sure they were needed).
- Sand all the cut edges
- Oil Wood
- Enjoy
