I have a friend with a 2007 290DA, the starboard engine won’t start, when he pushes the start button it does nothing, it will start if he uses the emergency start button, as soon as he release it the engine shuts down, it stays running as long as he hold the emergency start button in.

He’s tried a few things.
The batteries were original and needed to be replaced so he swapped out all 3 batteries.
He also replaced the 50amp breaker on top of the motor and swapped the port and starboard start buttons around so it’s not that.

Any ideas I could pass along to him would be appreciated.

Just kinda throwing these out there, bad ground from that one battery, bad starter noid. If it's taking the power of all three batteries to start that one engine check the power at the starter.

Thanks dwna1a, I'll pass that along.

I had the same issue for about 10 minutes... until I discovered I only had one of the engine circuit switches on and not both of them... duhhhhhhhh

battery switch not on or it failed.

I think the fusible link on the engine that won't start is blown. Look down near the starter wiring for a black wire with a link in it....the fusible link is about 1" X 3/4" by 1/2" thick. You will have to cut it out of the circuit to test it then splice the new on back in its place. I think its a $7 part...........

Thanks everyone, I'll pass these suggestions along to him.

I was gonna suggest this because I experienced the EXACT same thing 2 weeks ago. I was going thru every possibility when the admiral walks up and says, "perhaps if you turn on both ignitions, both engines will run......honey" So, she flipped the key and the port engine roared to life without the air of the emergency switch.

Good luck

I hope you responded with "Good job Honey..I was testing you"...

There is a fuse block on top of my 350's that has a few fuses in it. There is a 15 amp fuse that was blown on 1 of my motors when I experienced this issue. Replaced it and viola. I had run down the batteries enough to need the emergency start button. But, it happened to blow that fuse, and wouldn't remain running.

This just happened to me crossing lake Michigan. Replaced battery, all was fixed. I did check for loose connections or corrosion. None was found. Battery was only holding 10.8 volts. I didnt realize the motor shut down if the battery was bad.

I spoke to my friend briefly over the weekend, he said the dealer replaced a 15 amp blade fuse and that took care of this.

Spike-He had the same issue as you, ran down the batteries and used the emergency start button which blew the fuse, he then replaced all the batteries because they were original and wouldn't take a charge but didn't know about this fuse.

Thanks everyone.

I had the exact same thing happen and this was the cause for mine.
