I use the same. Clear silicone holds them in place all season I and have them come out about 1 1/2”. You can’t really see them when the boat is in the water unless you look for them.
A roll of the tubing cost me about 5 bucks at Home Depot and it will last for many years.
I pull them out when the boat comes out of the water so I can back flush and winterize the AC units by pushing Antifreeze in backwards, then put new ones in before splashing again in Spring.

Used those with great success on my 340 and 410. Most of the stains cam from the AC pans. Now I'm spoiled with the common drains on the 58...no more multiple thru-hulls, just one on each side below the bottom paint line.

I’ve been using them on the AC discharges on the starboard side. Next year I’m going to do the same on the sump discharges on the port side.
If the tubing wasn’t clear my boat would start to look like a porcupine.

Does the flow diminish once your boat hits about 40 years old? Been thinking of the dripper gaurds, myself.

At 60 years you might notice reduced flow...

I get the same stain, even with two brand new a/c units. 50/50 of vinegar and water plus scrubbing eliminated mine and I used the clear tubing as well, all good!!

I use the tubing on the discharges coming out of the AC units. They work fantastic!
Next season I’m going to use them on the discharges for the sumps. My AC drip pans drain in to the sumps along with the showers.

Cleaning the unit with barnacle buster doesn’t do anything for water stains below the discharges around here. It’s the water itself that stains the hull.
Plastic tubing or other devices designed to direct the steady flow further from the hull are the only way to avoid the staining that I’ve found.
