Generator Question

This is a 3600 rpm model...

http://www.westerbeke.com/productBrochures/9.6_bcgtc.pdf

After using a 1800 rpm model, I guess the only reason Westerbeke would design something like this, is that there is a cost/efficiency benefit associated with it for the application that requires this wattage output.

Perhaps to achieve this wattage at 1800 rpm it would require a heavier, more costly unit. 3600 rpm sounds like a "screaming" machine, but aside from being a bit noisy....no big deal. BTW, they do offer a soundshield for this unit.

My generator turns at 1800 RPM It is a small engine (988cc) and we get 8KW out of it. It burns 1 US GPH What size engine do you have?

Jim,

Get my PM ? I am much more of an observer than I am a participant here so I will probably need some training on how to move around on the site better. I do not see my box being full but will certainly get it out.

It would be good to know how many other late 1990's have the 3600 rpm gen sets. Rusty told me that the gen set manufacturers had a problem with Ca standards and they had to produce the high rpm engines to remain in the market. They basically stuck Sea Ray and the other manufacturers with these units for a couple of yrs. In 2000 they magically came up with a 1800 rpm version. It is what it is.
