Hi Guys: I have a 400 Sundancer 1997 Diesel. In my last outings there is strong smell of burned rubber, like when you burn tires in a car.
I turned off the generator, the blower, refrigerator, a/c, etc only engine running. It is not overheating. as soon as I turn the engine off after 3 minutes the smell disappears.
Has anybody had this kind of problem? I already have my mechanic checking everything and could not find any problem.
Any suggestions will be highly appreciated.:smt100
Thank you

Clogged exaust riser maybe burning the wet exaust hose, motor would show normal temps

Hose leaning against a hot part of the engine?

Check your batteries if they are flood type. They may have been boiling and need water.

On these engines, there are 2 accessory drive belts, one for the alternator and another for the engine circulating pump. The circulating pump is tensioned with a mechanical tensioner. I suspect either an alternator belt is slipping or one of the circulating belt tensioners is frozen.

Thank you very much for your posts. I checked everything suggested by you and could not find anything wrong.
There is one thing that I just noticed in my way back cruising. I opened the hatch, the smell was very strong and I noticed that the tube coming out of the turbo was rubbing against the rubber hose of the exhaust The mechanioc is coming this week and hope that will solve the problem.
I think Rondds was the closest to the problem (I hope!)

What do I win? ;-)

Thank you to everybody again.
I finally found the problem. Impeller was almost gone. We did not cheked it at the begining because we change them every year in August, but it looks that they do not last that long.
Fixed!

Oh man, I win nothing.
