Highfield… any regrets?

Y'all know I'm never one to overthink, or overdo ANYTHING .....

Thinking about putting this in line between the fuel tank and 20 HP EFI Tohatsu......

I've done the simple clear splice in the hose in-line filters on every outboard for the last 20 years or so and my thinking is that with this mounted on the transom (no holes, i'll mount it to a sealed wood block epoxied to the transom) I'll never have to deal with what appears to be the factory engine mounted, simple filter screen/water separator.

Thie one above is rated at 2 microns/15 gph so I'm thinking it would handle everything.

But it's a DIESEL filter.

Dink is SUPPOSED to be ready for pick up mid March. My white motor requirement created a special order.

Your comments will be appreciated.

I don’t think it would cause a problem, just probably unnecessary with how quick you’ll be turning over the 3 gallon tank it won’t have much opportunity to pick up moisture.

Only concern would be adding resistance to the fuel pump but these EFI’s are pretty stout and I can’t imagine a filter like that being a restriction

I think I would ask the outboard guy where you bought the dinghy if the filter would restrict fuel flow

OPIONIONS NEEDED...

Dealer seems to either be genuinely behind in deliveries, or is jacking me around.

Paid my $5,000.00 refundable deposit (stated on the contract in bold) by AMEX

310 CL tiller model with 20 HP white electric start Tohatsu. Dealer throwing in extra plastic seat, bimini, lights & rigging. I'm at $9,450 + tax

I came across this in Ft Myers:

I think it's likely too big/heavy for my 450DA with the Hurley H30, but it does have the same beam as the 310.

To save weight, it's been custom rigged with no fwd locker.

Thoughts?

Alternately, I can likely go pick up the Highfield & motor, unrigged, in Ft. Lauderdale, hand truck it to the dock, unbox it all and set it up myself, however there may be drawbacks to that scenario . . .what if it leaks? etc.

Maybe a Dancer- I've done 510 lbs on ours with Hurley Davit. The boat your looking at is 420# Length is the next factor.

Are you using the optional extension plate?

It's an H30 with the manual winch.

The Highfield has a beam 5" wider (2.5" wider from the center line than the Achilles.)

Hopefully I won't need to add that massive plate to the swim platform.

Don't like the idea of that weight being pushed farther back, plus puts the dink moew in the wake spray, a problem currently with the Achilles air floor.

I really would prefer the new CL 310 with the 20 HP white tohatsu from a size/weight/warranty standpoint...

Then get the Hurley electric winch and keep the crank one on board as a backup.

Perhaps I'll just wait and see if the dealer delivers as promised, and promised and promised.......

Added the (not yet delivered) dink to my policy.

Hoping for delivery today (again)

Any suggestions on securing the motor?

Securing the dink?

For now I'll use the cable and brass padlock from the Achilles, (who would want to steal a 2.5 HP Suzuki???) but would like to get more serious for the Highfield and the 20 HP Tohatsu.

Hoping for delivery tomorrow or Thursday.

When it's over I'll share some of the details.

Are y'all running the 3.1 gallon, the 6.6 gallon or the question really is....

What size fuel tank are most folks using?

I think the 3.1 is what's included in my 310CL - Tohatsu 20 HP package, that is if and when I get it, see it, use it...

I used to carry a 1.5 gallon gas can onboard to feed the lil 2.5HP Suzuki.

How much fuel do y'all typically carry onboard for a typical 1-3 night on the hook outing?

Tohatsu website shows 1.6 GPH @ 5,500 RPM, but that does not translate well into our CSR style typical usage.

+1 on the 3 gallon tank. Mine is a 20HP SUZUKI as well. They really are gas misers.

Highfield FINALLY delivered !

Dealer dropped it off at the local boat ramp, and I ran it to the home dock from there.

Tiller model with 20 HP Tohatsu - WOW very powerful ! Almost seemed a bit squirrely, likely I need to get used to it and I was travelling light.

Totally different from the same size Achilles air floor.

I am going easy on the motor for proper break-in.

Photographic proof of actual delivery is below.

When not in use, dink will be kept on a pivoting jet ski lift (on order) at the home dock.

For now it's plywood and towels, using the hand crank crane to slide it onto the dock.

Couple of questions:

This one came with factory second seat, bimini and nav light which plugs into a socket built into the bow locker/step. After getting the boat home I looked into the bow locker and found the nav light wire and connector - not connected to anything. - Suggestions?

What are y'all doing to secure the dink and motor from theft?

I've padlocked the motor attachments together. Anything else?

THANKS TO ALL FOR ALL THE GOOD INFO THAT GOT ME HERE !

I had my new 20hp out for the fist time today. On a 310 I thought holy shit this is different. Just the EFI was impressive starting it… can’t wait to adjust the trim and play with that hp
