instaling Raymarine fishfinder / depfinder etc

I just looked at the instructions to install a Raymarine Dragonfly 5 Pro fishfinder / chartplotter combo. I am installing it on a 1981 310 Vanguard with twin Inboards. The instructions say the transducer needs to be mounted in front of the props. Obviously a transom mount is behind the props.

I am guessing that means I need to now purchase a thru hull transducer. The sell one plastic for 269.99 & one bronze for 339.99.

First question will it really not work with the transom mount? If not is it worth the money to get the bronze thru hull over the plastic one?

You definitely need a thru-hull.

While I have never, ever seen a boat sink from a plastic thru-hull people pretty much always use bronze thru-hulls.

Ended up installing it just to starboard of the drain plug on the transom. It is working great. I almost never lose the signal even at 3300 rpm.

Now if I can just figure out what the heck I am looking at all will be right with the world lol.
