Hi, We've got a 2003 380 Sundancer and the radio system appears to be the original (we bought it used recently) and there is NO auxiliary imput hole for plugging in my iphone/ipod to play the music. I've gone to West Marine to look at a new radio but then they said my existing cockpit remote won't work with a new system in cabin. Any suggestions? I'm hoping not to have to get a whole new system.

Unfortunatley, circa 03 had the XMD3 which does not have inputs on the rear to add in a jack. Your options are FM transmitters, which have crappy signals, an in line FM transmitter which is a little better, or swap out the system. Swapping out the system is what I did and would do again if I had to.

The system does have aux imput hole in the rear? That's great news! Thanks you all for all your help. I'm going to have to have my husband take off the panel that is containing the system and look behind it. I guess if we find it and can get to the back of the system he'll have to drill a hole through the cabinet for the cord to come forward. The iphone has the better music because its got the ipod, aol radio and Pandora music radio. We get sick of listening to the same 'ol CD's and FM radio sometimes. I'm going to look for the imput now.......thanks.

Im looking to update the stereo on my 380DA for something more current. Any suggestions? im looking for something with the Iphone adapter also. My speakers and CD changer seem fine. Will they adapt to a current reciever? Thanks!

You know you had me thinking... I had to replace the stock unit (long story a long time ago) and when I looked up the XDM3, that's the radio I have now. In fact now that I think about it I also had to change out the cd player to be compatable with the XMD3.

Look like someone's in the market for a new head unit. Clarion's CMD5 marine CD receiver
is the current Clarion model ($375 at Cruchfield) easy swap out.

I can add more later if you would like regarding a wireless RF controller for the ipod (search "ijet") but hard wired ipod with ijet is the way to go.

I use the aux input of my XMD3. It works just fine.

Oops, check your radio. My 03 340 had what I thought was an XMD3 but must have been the XMD1. Apparently if you have the 3, your good to go. If its the XMD1 like mine was, theres no RCA's on the back to add in the input jack. Swapping it out with a new CMD4 or 5 is plug and play though, the harness is the same.
This is the XMD1

Hi, Yup, I've got the XMD1, not the XMD3 for sure. It looks pretty complicated to switch out the head unit. There's alot of wiring behind. If i got a new one, i'd have to get an electronics person to install. More $$$$......I'll either get a new one or just live with no iphone music.

I just installed one of these, cheap and cheerful but the sound quality is excellent and gives you two more speakers + super bass, good old eBay

I just installed a Kenwood deck on my boat with the Ipod usb port right on the front of the unit. it runs the ipod directly thru the stereo. It also has the input wire to hardwire the remote stereo controls from bridge/cabin etc. I bought mine in Canada for $190.... probably about $120 in the States Can't remember the model number but go to Kenwoods website and it will be listed

Cheers, Gary

to swap Clarion for Clarion really very easy just label everything and remember say bye to you cd changer

XMD1 and 3 have the same wiring harness as the new CMD4/5. Plug and play. There is an adaptor to make the changer work with the new units but I bought a reman'd changer for 1/2 price of the adaptor. It was a waste of money though since its never been used now that I can play through my Iphone/Ipod. Might as well say bye to it...

Davidhirl - that ebay item you showed me looks really easy, but how will that play music out of my existing speakers already on the boat since its being plugged into the car charger plug?
Thanks everyone so far for some good options......Jill

The unit has a cd player in it. With mp3's cds are obsolete. I you think differently maybe I'll sell you mine

I have a 2001 380DA and upgraded the stereo head unit and remote with the current Clarion unit. I mounted the new remote towards the stern so I could have access from the helm and the rear seats. The new remote is more user friedly. Aslo, the new head unit produces way better sound. I also ran a remote 1/8 plug for the ipod to the cockpit for FULL control of the ipod. Changed out all tvs to flat screens and put a TV and AC outlet in the cockpit for TV viewing outside. Did all of this at the start of last year and I am very happy with upgrades and would do it again. Good luck.

Dick,

Do you have any pictures of your outside tv install? Also what tv'd did you choose for inside?
