I have been chasing rot back into the engine room and looks like it's ended about 6" in front of the motor mount, The Starboard side is OK. All this was caused by the gentle drip for 27 years from a leaking cabin window. Gezzzzzzzzzzzzz!:smt009

Hehe... What? No audio of the "choice" words spoken when you found it?

So that's what is keeping you busy Heather....
I thought you had just slowed down on the window replacements.
Still it will look really good when you finish and for $100 with the engines running - it's still a great deal
Jim:thumbsup:

Yea it's been a race. Tonight I had a friend come over and show me how to better apply the Great Stuff foam........

If they have a beer in one hand and say,,, "Hold on watch this and Back up"........It may be a bad idea to let them play with your boat......
I have splatter every where... All my clean glass work is now covered by Home Depot Great stuff crap!!!!. It was only to fill some minor gaps... He thinks it's to Re-foam the boat!!!!!!!!!!!!!! ARGGGGGGGGGGGG!!!!!! Jesus Christ!!!!! what a mess to clean up!
ummm.jpg

I was doing fine with a slow methodical release......... Now look at this mess!!!!!!
Do you have a friend you can't say NO too but you know it's going to be a wreck no mater what you say? So,,, you let them "SHOW YOU HOW TO DO IT" to keep the peace and this is what you get! Why do we do it? WHy do we keep them close like the puppy that rips open the trash bag? We slap them on the nose but if they look cute we let them do it to us again!!!!!

This is how it ends. :(

My Mother of all people was a boat builder as was her Father and her Grandfather..... and like unto his Grand Father.

My family comes from the Chesapeake bay and the VA Beach area and are builders from 5-Generations back,,,,and none of them had ever heard the words I uttered on this project...................

Did you tell anybody that their Moma's and Daddy's were never married?

From the looks of this I think it's safe to say this is not your first rodeo.

You are serious.:wow:

On the plus side, though, you've got a huge "blank canvas" to start with in there. Pretty cool!

Yea, It kills me, because most of the time I rebuild a personal boat I like to go all custom or at the least change the layout is a more appropriate way to say it. On this one how ever. I am very happy with the floor plan and cant think of a better layout so I am going to put it back as it was other than the color change of the interior and some modern updates like TV's more 110 outlets. I was also thinking of redoing the cabin door to lexan panels rather than the wood. I guess I need to say,,, I like it the way it came.

Lexan panels ? they are expensive...
can you purchase small quantities?

Naaa it's not that bad. I think Home Depot has some that is smoked and it's about $130 or so for a 4x4 sheet. Something like that. Well I got my step and some other stuff glassed in.

You should consider using a marine two-part, closed-cell flotation foam instead of that "stuff in a can". The two-part foam will not absorb water like that stuff will.

I am just filling some minor voids is all. I have the two part closed cell for the rear. Richard punched a hole in the can and it went every were. It's funny now but I was mifed that night. LOL

That first pic looks more like a root celler than a boat...

The fact that you seem to change layouts when you refit but are keeping this girl the same says something about Sea Rays eh? :)

Yes they are nice. And very well built too. The fact they glass the tops and bottom of all there ply makes repairs direct, modular and easy. The foam stays dry, it adds rigidity to the over all hull. Very impressive designs for longevity.
How ever, there Windows are not all that great and that is more Taylor's fault than any thing.
