I was going to build our dream home/cabin up north in the next year or two, but I think a better plan would be to sell our current home now while the Boise valley's market is insane, then live in the fifth-wheel until the housing market tanks. Putting up a new building then should be cake.

I haven't seen such drastic lumber prices here but they're definitely up since before. I'm paying about $6 for kiln-dried fir 2x4 -- after you sort through all the bowed and twisted ones :eek:

I just ordered a pickup on a Bagster (might be a regional thing) and that is up to $270 ( for 1 yard ).
 
If McDonalds now has to pay employees 30-50% more do they seriously think the price of a happy meal won't go up? Have to make up that difference somehow. You own a bar and a bottle of beer (cost) goes up .30 do you think the bar owner will still sell it for the same price he has been? The math doesn't work. The price of everything will go up, thus inflation. Taxes go up? Bottle of beer goes up too. Now my paycheck has to go 25% further as my grocery bill will go up, fuel, electric, everything. A worker at the electric dept makes $18/hour now? Well he will get a pay bump because if that same person can make almost the same at McDonalds and not be outside in the elements or working with dangerous voltage then the electric co. will have a hard time attracting good employees
 
So the tax increase on the "wealthiest Americans" earnings threshold has been cut in half from $400,000 to $200,000. Well on it's way to $40,000. Didn't even take a week. And now they are spending $86M of our tax dollars to house illegal immigrants in hotels. Ineptness at it's finest.
 
At the rate they print and borrow money, I can't help but wonder why they even bother taxing us at all. So they can print less?

In Canada 40% of the population does not pay any income tax according to internet.
 
Wife was just talking to her former student whose sister is about late 30's with 2 kids and boyfriend is in jail. She has never had a job and just applied and was accepted into the projects. The sister told my wife that her sister has $10,000 saved up in the bank. Ridiculous. I don't know many working people that have that much in savings

Well, when you don't pay taxes or living expenses you can put money (welfare) away in the bank. Irresponsibility pays apparently...

Think of it this way...I buy a house for $100,000. 2 years later it's worth $200,000 but I don't sell. 2 years later I sell for $125,000 but they make me pay tax on the $200,000 sale.

I'm curious, would you be nailed to the 1500 because it happened to be the value on Dec 31 of the tax year or because you are stuck with the HIGH it reaches during the tax year?

Not sure. I'm a day trader and rarely hold anything overnight but had heard it through my trading buddies.
 
If you buy a stock for $100 and sell it for $200, you pay tax on $100 for your profit. If you hold if for over one year it gets taxed at a lower rate than if you were to hold it for less than one year.

If the stock went to $1,000 and back down to $200 and you sell at $200 you still only pay gains on the $100 profit.
 
Guys, I not gonna let gas price get me down, as long as I can float I happy. I doubt I spent $400 in gas last year, I am just happy to be on boat. Enjoy what we have, we are a small percentage that does.

I average $2-$4K per season in gas (depends on who comes to visit). If that goes up to $6-$8K, ok. The cheapest thing in boating for me is gas. I just spent more than that having new flooring made, and some mechanicals that needed to be addressed (I don't have the time). If we had to worry about affording gas, we would need to sell the boat.

That’s what I mean guys, the fact we on this site means we doing better than most, enjoy, be happy, life is good.
