Looking at a 2007 48 Sundancer

Thanks Stan. Did you have a mesh/screen for the windshield or did you have one made? I to need to get one to reduce the heat in the cockpit.
My PO installed ceramic window tint. It seems to be pretty effective. He used a lighter tint. I bet a darker tint would work even better.

I do not nor do I feel the need to do so. While the cockpit can heat up some, I don't find it too, too bad. I run a small fan from time to time. But of course, your taste/experience may differ.

Is that legal to install tine on the front windows?

I'm not aware that it is illegal. Anyone know otherwise? I've seen some boats with complete black-out to the point you can't see in with your face pressed up against the glass.

I know when a car has tinted windows its affects the night time visibility, I'm sure its the same or even worse for a boat.

True, but a boat is not a car and under completely different regulations. I don't think the Coast Guard boards with a window tint meter. The annual car inspection does include a tint measurement.

I do not believe there are any rules or regulations from the USCG regarding tinting on the windshield - but I can vouch for the fact that it makes driving at night very difficult in a 48. Mine were tinted, not entirely blacked out but fairly tinted - I loved it during the day but on the occasion when I had to drive at night I hated it ....

I'm not sure of the percent reflectivity of my tint, but it is dark enough to look cool and keep the inside at 78 on a 100+ degree day and light enough that I can drive at night without a problem. Just keep the lights off to prevent reflections. I dim down the instruments and electronics. Lobster pots are impossible to spot with my current tint or my last boat's clear windows at night, but that is a night cruising problem, not a tinting problem. I think the ceramic tint is a must though.

Had the survey and sea trail today. A few minor things but overall a great boat. The 48 is not as noisy as the 42 while cruising, big difference. The survey for my boat is tomorrow and hopefully we can get this deal closed.

I am looking at a 2007 48 Sundancer tomorrow, if all looks well I maybe a 48DA owner. Some of you will probably think I'm crazy but the hull is black. I had a black hull boat prior to my 420 and really like the look. I commented in another thread about why would one go from a 420DA/44DA to a 48 DA, that there is not much of a difference. Well during my 2 week boat trip to Block Island I had the opportunity to board a dock mates 48DA, what a boat. I told my broker to keep an eye out for one and wouldn't you know one came available at the right price. It has everything we want, I will add Nuteak to the cockpit if the deal goes through.

We have a 48DA and moved up from a 44DA. the boat is better in every way. Good luck.

Andy
