Maretron DSM410 / J2K100 / J1939 Onan programming

All, good afternoon, I hate to drag up an old thread, butt!

First, to all who contribute your knowledge and expertise to Club Sea Ray, thank you. I have used your experiences to guide me through the pitfalls of repairs, and the upgrade journey.

I have perused, and dissected this thread for the last 24 months, I have used the information from this thread to tackle this upgrade. My current configuration:
Maretron J2K100
DSM410
VV703
cut jumper #2
reattach Jumper #5
select "Gen"
instants match
Martron N2K Analyzer PNG 127489: Total engine hours: -1.#QNANO Hr (What does that mean? Is it relevant???)

I have all the information except Generator engine hours, in "Jeremygavin's post #113", he does not have the hours displayed on his VV703, he states he has a remote Onan panel that displays hours so he is happy with the information on Onan panel. With that said,

My $64,000 question is, has anyone had success in displaying Generator engine hours on either the VV703, or the Marathon DSM410???

I am ok if I can't, what I am planning on doing is move the hour meter to the electrical panel in the salon (just extended the wires and mount), or buy the remote Onan panel and the extended wiring. I would prefer to the solve the puzzle!
Thank you, frustrated, Robbie

ttmott, thank you for adding your pictures of you settings. I am sorry that it took a bit to get back with you, need to get back on the boat. We have quadruple checked the instances across the three main items , Maretron J100, DSM410, and the Mercury Vessel View 703, they all match.
The only item missing is hours, is this relevant:
(Martron N2K Analyzer PNG 127489: Total engine hours: -1.#QNANO Hr (What does that mean? Is it relevant???))

We talked with Maretron and they said the "Maretron's side of the setting are correct", they seem to think it is on the "Onan side" of the connections and settings, we have no idea what that means. The Vessel View 703 is a Simrad built box, I believe it is different from your setup, I don't know if that makes any difference. Again, thank you for all the knowledge you, and others have contributed to solving this issue, I would not have the information that we do without your expertise!

Hope someone has ideas, or a picture of a VV703 displaying engine hours and what the magic combination is, if not running another set of wires to the salon! Thank you, Robbie

I spent considerable effort on this a few years ago when we were discovering, pretty much from scratch, how the generator data might be gotten but never succeeded in getting hours. The big difference between engine hours and the remainder of the generator data is that hours need to be actively requested from the NIM; the rest are broadcast without needing to be requested.
I first used a Yacht Devices (YD) YDEG-04 J1939 converter. @ttmott and I worked virtually on figuring out the right wires in the Smartcraft harness to tap. I tapped the harness at the j-box while Tom wired in closer to the generator. The YDEG had not been used for this purpose previously but the programmers (in Latvia, I believe) worked with me and programmed a routine for generator data. Everything worked well except engine hours. The programmers recognized that a request was needed and tried several iterations to get it to work. They thought the converter was sending the right signal but the NIM wouldn't respond.
I also had a Maretron J100. It came right up when connected to the harness and provided everything but hours. See this passage from the J100 manual:

See here for how to invoke the engine hours request in the J100 configuration screen:

Maybe this will work for you. For some reason it has not for me.[/QUOTE]

Sorry it has taken a couple of days to get back here. I reached out to Onan, passed on all the information on the hour meter display issue that is available, they spent the last week looking into it, they believe the problem lie with the permissions, or Mercury, or on Marathon side of the house. ttmott, the last photo you posted in post #126 says it all, I will confirm my settings next time I am on the boat. Again, I thank all for the information and troubleshooting, still looking for the "brass ring", Robbie
